d. De-mask as soon as possible after coating application.<br />

10.15.2 Shelters Skids. Skids are attached to the underside<br />

of the shelters. When the shelters are deployed or in service,<br />

they rest on dirt, gravel, or concrete and experience corrosion<br />

due to damage to the protective coating. Organizational/field<br />

level repair of tactical shelter skids are very limited, and damaged<br />

shelter skids are to be referred to depot for repair or<br />

replacement. See the system specific shelter maintenance<br />

manual and the general instructions below for organizational<br />

and depot replacement and repair procedures for cleaning,<br />

repair, treatment and painting of shelter skids.<br />

10.15.2.1 Repair of Damaged Shelter Skids. Damaged<br />

shelter skids secured with bolts or rivets must be removed,<br />

repaired, and secured with mounting bolts. Follow the procedures<br />

below when repairing damaged shelter skids.<br />

a. Elevate the shelter and remove the damaged skid(s).<br />

c. Touch up the treated area by applying underbody coating<br />

specified by the system specific maintenance manual.<br />

If not specified use one coat of DOD-P-15328 or<br />

MIL-C-8514 Wash Primer, on the bare metal; one coat<br />

of MIL-PRF-23377, Type I, Class C Epoxy Primer or<br />

MIL-P-53030 Epoxy Primer; and one coat of MIL-PRF-<br />

85285 Polyurethane Topcoat. Application shall be per<br />

procedures in Chapter 7 of this manual.<br />

Drilling and cutting operations create metal chips<br />

which may enter the eyes. Eye protection is required.<br />

b. Drill out any damaged blind nuts, as outlined in Chapter<br />

3 of <strong>TO</strong> 35E4-1-162.<br />

c. Install 5/16-inch stainless steel blind nuts of appropriate<br />

length in the shelter bottom as outlined in Chapter 3 of<br />

<strong>TO</strong> 35E4-1-162.<br />

d. Prepare a sheet aluminum alloy spacer 0.001 to 0.003<br />

inch thinner than the head of the blind nut.<br />
