Scarborough Borough Council: Draft Statement of Community Involvement Page 14
• Local Partnerships especially the Local Strategic Partnership.
• Stakeholder meetings; e.g. Architects and Agents Forum.
• Through the Urban Renaissance programme (regular meetings).
• Letters to stakeholders, Statutory consultees, etc
• Email.
• Leaflets.
5.5.3 Joint common consultation methods will be employed where possible. For example,
there are many links between the LDF and the Community Strategy and there may be
opportunities to carry out dual-exhibitions and presentations or to carry out joint
consultation exercises.
5.5.4 Whilst the Council has embraced new technology and make wide use of the internet
and e-mail, it is considered important that these do not replace other conventional
means of communication entirely as this would isolate sections of the community
with no access to information technology or those with poor IT skills.
5.5.5 The strengths and weaknesses of the various consultation methods have been assessed
and assisted in selecting the most appropriate methods of consultation for DPD and
SPD production. Table 1 overleaf (Methods of Consultation and Involvement)
provides this information.
5.6 The Stages of Consultation
The range of proposed documents, the timetable for their preparation and the
opportunities for community involvement are set out in the Council’s Local
Development Scheme (see website or obtain a copy from the Forward Planning
Office). Whilst the Planning Section will promote continuous community
involvement via the publication of updates in the local press the Councils Newsletter
and by updating the Planning webpages, the formal opportunities for public
consultation on the various documents are summarised in the diagram opposite. The
current timetable for the production of several DPD’s and SPD’s and the likely
timescale for consultation exercises can be found in the Local Development Scheme
which can be viewed on the Councils website or copies can be provided if requested.
