1.0 Foreword What is the Purpose of this Consultation? 1.1 The Borough Council would like your views on the best way of involving the community in the planning process. 1.2 The Council wishes to involve all members of the community, residents, businesses, community groups and others, in planning the future development of the Borough. 1.3 To help the community become involved in the planning process, whether in formulating new policies and proposals in the new Local Development Framework or commenting on planning applications, the Borough Council is preparing a statement of who, when and how people will be involved. 1.4 This will be set out eventually in a document called the “Statement of Community Involvement”. 1.5 There are many ways in which this involvement could be achieved and to inform what goes into the SCI this document outlines the options and seeks your views on the most appropriate approach. Does this affect me? 1.6 Everyone who is affected by the proposed Local Development Framework (previously known as the Local Plan) or by planning applications should note the contents of the Statement of Community Involvement as it will explain how the Borough Council aims to keep you and other people involved in ‘Planning in Scarborough Borough’. What to Comment on? 1.7 To help focus on the issues the document asks questions at certain sections. Please feel free to add any other comments you feel relevant. However, this document specifically concentrates on improving public participation and is not intended to be used to make comments relating to specific planning proposals, planning policy or other Council related subjects. How long do I have to comment? 1.8 For the purposes of this stage you have 6 weeks to comment.
