plot <strong>of</strong> figure 2.5 implies that shortly above <strong>the</strong> minimum pressure required <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> production<br />

<strong>of</strong> particles, only <strong>the</strong> impactor is well suited to keep <strong>the</strong> particle size distribution sufficiently<br />

narrow and <strong>the</strong> mean particle diameter sufficiently small <strong>for</strong> accurate <strong>flow</strong> investigations, but<br />

‚<br />

could be seen by visual inspection, that <strong>the</strong> particle concentration produced is quite low when<br />

only a single four-hole nozzle is used. <strong>The</strong> effect <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> impactor can be clearly seen by comparing<br />

<strong>the</strong> dot-dashed line with <strong>the</strong> dotted graph. It should be mentioned that additional use <strong>of</strong><br />

more impactors (cascade arrangement) has no fur<strong>the</strong>r effect on <strong>the</strong> particle size distribution.<br />

By increasing <strong>the</strong> pressure from 0.5 to*bar, <strong>the</strong> exit velocity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> air jet reaches <strong>the</strong> speed<br />

<strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> two high mass flux nozzles with —) and<br />
