The day of one’s First Communion was a very special day. They <strong>at</strong>e a better meal<br />
and the family was brought together to celebr<strong>at</strong>e it.<br />

In 2006, Marcos Arroyo, one of the boys th<strong>at</strong> lives in the town, did his First<br />
Communion. It was celebr<strong>at</strong>ed with a mass and then a cocktail snack, served in the City<br />
Hall for all the town people th<strong>at</strong> accompanied him. “This was a family festival, and also<br />
close and nostalgic <strong>at</strong> the same time,” commented a participant. I imagine th<strong>at</strong> it was<br />
very emotional, especially for those who realize th<strong>at</strong> these two children are the only<br />
children th<strong>at</strong> remain in the town and since it will be the last time th<strong>at</strong> this will occur here.<br />
It is admirable th<strong>at</strong> Augustine and Ana, the parents of Marcos and Alfredo, wanted to<br />
celebr<strong>at</strong>e these events with the old style and in their hometown.<br />
As long as people like these exist in these towns, the small towns of Spain will<br />
not die.<br />
