ON Resurrection Sunday the procession of the encounter would take place. All<br />
the people would unite <strong>at</strong> the church where some of the young women dressed in<br />
mourning clothes and would grab the Virgin Mary in order to take her to the procession,<br />
while the rest of the women initi<strong>at</strong>ed the singing th<strong>at</strong> accompanied this party. The two<br />
following strophes were sung <strong>at</strong> the very moment th<strong>at</strong> the youth grabbed the Virgin<br />
Mary.<br />
“Maidens grab the Virgin,<br />
Where shall we take her,<br />
To the happy streets<br />
We shall find Jesus<br />
Raise the full palm<br />
From those tree litters<br />
We are going to look for your son<br />
Around this place.”<br />
In another area the young men accompanied Jesus. One of them carries a pine<br />
branch decor<strong>at</strong>ed with doughnuts, lemons and oranges. The young men from the pine<br />
grove brought the branch and the maidens prepared it. It significance is placed in<br />
contrast to the Cross, which is a dry beam in which is the de<strong>at</strong>h. The flowered and<br />
adorned tree or branch signifies the new life th<strong>at</strong> the Resurrected brings us. The<br />
doughnuts were used to give name to this Easter th<strong>at</strong>, other than Florid, they are also<br />
called Rosquillera (doughnutry), because in the majority of regions the making of buns<br />
and doughnuts was very common. The oranges and lemons were hung on the tree<br />
because it was the easiest fruit to find during this time of year.<br />
The ringing of the bells marked the beginning of the procession. The following<br />
