Cinemas Southwest Buys
2 Trans-Texas Houses
DALLAS — Cinemas Southwest has
bought the Fine Arts Theatre in University
Park and the Aquarius IV complex in Oak
Cliff from Trans-Texas Theatres.
The Fine Arts is one of the oldest remaining
theatres in Dallas. It previously
was owned by the Interstate circuit and
known as the Varsity Theatre. "Our policy
for the Fine Arts is in a state of limbo,"
said Cinemas Southwest film buyer John
I.indley. "For awhile we will have to continue
with the X-rated policy or as an art
house."
A complete $1 policy has been initiated
at the Aquarius.
Ed Cook is principal owner of Cinemas
Southwest, which was organized in 1972
with the opening of a twin theatre in Corpus
Christi. The circuit now operates 28
theatres in San Antonio, El Paso, Waco,
McAllen, Corpus Christi. Brownsville, Harlingen
and Albuquerque. N.M.
