Adjustment Procedures for Bauer
L/-3, U-4 Similar in Several Areas

us data pertinent to
the company's Bauer
theatre projector systems.
While the particular
data covered
the Bauer U-3 35/
70mm projector, the
U-4 35mm model is
very similar. For example,
Wesley Trout

film path, projector head, optical sound
unit and Iamphouse are applicable to both
projectors.
As a functional examination, check the
oil level in the window at the rear of the
projector mechanism. During standstill,
the
oil inspection window must show a filling
of three-fourths. The oil level must never
reach the top edge of the oil level indicator
window. Remember to use only the very
finest projector oil for maximum operation
efficiency and longer wear of moving parts.
Periodically examine all the sprockets
for teeth wear. Worn sprockets not only
can cause picture jump but also can damage
film. Sprockets should be cleaned every
day with a stiff-bristle tooth brush moistened
with a little cleaning solvent.
Check the idle rollers that hold the film
on the takeup and feed sprockets to see that
they run smoothly and are clean. Make sure
all rollers turn freely so that they will not

develop flat spots. Adjust the rollers so tbl
the distance between them and the sproclfl
face is equivalent to the thickness of t|
pieces
of film.
There must be no play in the focusul
mechanism for all three film formats. ApplJ
some lubricant, such as Vaseline, to
shaft of the lens turret.
Be sure to check the drive belt for
proper tension and alignment, also notin
that it is in good condition and operate|
smoothly.
Rotate the sound drum on the opticd
sound unit to make sure it runs smoothll
and does not have any binds. This is eij
tremely important for good sound reprodud
tion. Keep this unit clean and free of an|
dirt or dust.
Another check is the alignment of
rollers in the optical sound system. Makj
sure they run freely.
We recommend that you clean the prd
jection lens and the sound optic every daj
with a small brush, wiping clean with led
tissue. Clean the condenser lens in the led
holder. Remove the solar cell from tlj
optical sound unit and wipe clean once
awhile.
Note: When replacing the solar cell,
push it in firmly to the end stop.
Occasionally check the functioning of tl
braking roller in front of the optical soun
unit. The proper adjustment of the brakir
roller and the guide rollers of the sour
unit is ensured when the compensatir
roller on the sound drum remains more <
