to be telecast from the theatre. Smith says
Justin Freed Takes Over
Coolidge Corner Theatre
BOSTON—The old 1,300-seat Coolidge
Corner film house in Brookline. which had
been running $1 admissions on subruns and
reissues, is being taken over by Justin Freed,
owner of the Park Square and the Kenmore,
and will become a repertory film
theatre.
Under the Freed banner, the former
B&Q house will show top oldies, cult films,
best of more recent films and the double
bills will change triweekly. To hypo young
audiences, weekend midnight screenings
will start with "Woodstock," and moppet
matinees also will be held.
Freed said that while the Coolidge Corner
had managed to hold onto a regular
audience over the years, one of the problems
was the product shortage. "The patrons
would go to see good films like 'The
Seven-Per-Cent Solution.' for example, but
they couldn't attract anyone with all the
junk films around."
Opening bill was "King of Hearts" and
"Bananas" for the eulters and two films
that were shown in the theatre's heyday.
"Rebecca" and "Notorious."
