Lastly, in specialist activities, business<br />
remained buoyant for Cardem, a subsidiary<br />
specialising in deconstruction, boosted by<br />
an acquisition in the Greater Paris area in<br />
the run-up to the Grand Paris projects. The<br />
company’s integrated asbestos removal,<br />
demolition and pollution remediation solutions<br />
were employed on sites of all kinds,<br />
including a fossil-fired power plant in Loire<br />
sur Rhône, a hospital in Clermont Ferrand<br />
and several high-rise apartment buildings<br />
in Lyon, Strasbourg and Bezons. Subsidiary<br />
Signature also continued to record good<br />
levels of business in its road sign and road<br />
marking activity.<br />

Germany<br />
Business declined 7.3% to €0.8 billion.<br />
Eurovia GmbH continued to scale back<br />
activity in order to maintain margins in the<br />
very difficult market environment.<br />
This affected mainly the roadworks-related<br />
business lines (civil engineering, earthworks<br />
and demolition). In the motorway<br />
sector, <strong>2013</strong> saw strong activity on the A5<br />
project in Baden-Württemberg and the A9<br />
motorway in Thuringia, where Eurovia is<br />
working for VINCI Concessions under the<br />
A-Modell programme to renovate a 46.5 km<br />
section between Berlin and Munich.<br />
The project includes widening a 19 km<br />
stretch to three-lane dual carriageway.<br />
The year’s other main projects included<br />
construction of the new Schwanebeck<br />
motorway interchange north of Berlin and<br />
the renovation of the city centre of Koblenz.<br />
United Kingdom<br />
Eurovia UK Ltd recorded 47.4% growth in<br />
revenue to €0.5 billion, attributable to multi-year<br />
contracts won during the previous<br />
year and ongoing sales and marketing<br />
momentum. In addition, two 25-year PFI<br />
contracts won in synergy with VINCI<br />
Concessions came into force in <strong>2013</strong>.<br />

One covers renovation and maintenance of<br />
the road networks of the London Borough<br />
of Hounslow (432 km of streets and 763 km<br />
of pavements) and the other the Isle of<br />
Wight (821 km of roads and 767 km of pavements).<br />
Apart from these two operations,<br />
13 service contracts for the maintenance of<br />
road infrastructure, with an average duration<br />
of five years and seven months, were<br />
under way at the end of <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
In works activities, Eurovia UK Ltd continued<br />
construction of a new 1.6 km road<br />
link in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and<br />
won the contract to build a roundabout in<br />
