ECE 051 ADMINISTRATION OF PROGRAMS FOR 3 UNITS<br />

HOURS: 3 leC<br />

YOUNG CHILDREN<br />

Designed to provide experience in the procedures of planning and administering programs for young children.<br />

Emphasis on state regulations, selection of staff, budgeting, selection of facility and equipment. Meets state licensing<br />

administration requirement for director. Satisfies three of the required six units in administration for the Site Supervisor<br />

Permit.<br />

ECE 055 SUPERVISION: PARENT/STAFF 3 UNITS<br />

HOURS: 3 leC<br />

RELATIONS<br />

Provides information and practice necessary for working effectively within a children’s program in a supervisory<br />

capacity. Emphasis is on parent relations, staff relations, and leadership. Meets state licensing administration<br />

requirement for a director. Meets three of the six unit administration requirement for the Site Supervisor Permit.<br />

ECE 061 INFANT TODdLER CARE AND 3 UNITS<br />

DEVELOPMENT<br />

Explores the development of infants and toddlers and the practices that support physical, emotional and intellectual<br />

growth. Includes strategies for home and group care.<br />

ECE 063 PROGRAMS FOR 3 UNITS<br />

SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN<br />

Explores the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of the school age child through the preadolescent<br />

years. Focuses on the development of programs for school age children, including program design,<br />

curriculum, and management to meet the needs of school age children and communities.<br />

ECE 072 SCIENCE CURRICuLUM FOR 1 UNIT<br />

THE YOUNG CHILD<br />

Presents information on planning and implementing science experiences for young children. Emphasis on<br />

spontaneous science activities, enhancing children’s natural curiosity in relation to science and using the scientific<br />

approach with young children.<br />

ECE 075 MATH CURRICuLUM FOR 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1 leC<br />

THE YOUNG CHILD<br />

Explores hands-on activities in Mathematics for young children. Focuses on formation of concepts about numbers,<br />

comparison, sets, measurement, geometry, mathematical reasoning, and math vocabulary. Includes planned and<br />

spontaneous activities, creating a math-rich environment, and home-made teaching materials.<br />

ECE 080 ADULT AND PEDIATRIC 0.5 UNITS<br />

HOURS: 9 leC<br />

CPR/FIRST AID<br />

Designed to give students knowledge and practical skills to handle CPR and First Aid emergencies for infants, children<br />

and adults. Certification available with a grade of “C” or better. May be repeated for recertification and credit.<br />

ECE 082 CHILD HEALTH AND SAFTEY 0.5 UNITS<br />

HOURS: 9 leC<br />

The student will be able to identify and address health and safety needs of children and adults in early childhood centerbased<br />

programs, family child care settings or in individual homes. Topics include: Playground safety, facilities management,<br />

sanitation, immunizations, disease prevention and control, food storage, child abuse and neglect, fire safety, flooding,<br />

earthquake safety, emergency preparedness and risk management plans. Certification available with a grade of “C” or better.<br />

ECE 083 CHILDREN’S STORYTELLING AND 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1 leC<br />

PUPPETRY<br />

Explores storytelling and puppetry for young children. Focus is on the presentation of activities and techniques for<br />

effective storytelling. Includes incorporating and extending literacy-based activities across the curriculum.<br />

ECE 085 EMERGING LITERACY 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1 leC<br />

Explores the developmental continuum of literacy from birth. Provides examples of age appropriate experiences,<br />

integrated curriculum, literacy-rich environments, and intentional teaching.<br />
