Provides the opportunity for students to work toward improving their professional skills or specific program<br />
components. Includes self-assessment, development of goals, action plan, assessment and documentation of specific<br />

ECE 098 SUCCEEDING IN AN ECE CAREER 1.5 UNITS<br />

Designed as a capstone course to assist students with skills for successfully obtaining employment in the ECE field.<br />
Addresses job seeking skills, presentation, interviewing, permit applications, and resume development. Includes<br />
critique of completed portfolios, and articulation of skills and knowledge acquired in the ECE program of study.<br />
ECE 140 TEACHING YOUNG CHILDREN 3 UNITS<br />

An introduction to special education including history, characteristics of special populations, identification, multicultural<br />
issues, advocacy and working with families. Addresses the educational needs of a variety of special populations of children<br />
of various ages and ability levels. Includes political, economic and legal contexts in which special education occurs.<br />
ECE 150 OBsERvATION AND 3 UNITS<br />
HOURS: 3 lEC ASSESSMENT CSU<br />
Presents an understanding of child development through exploring techniques of observing and recording children’s<br />
behavior. Includes analyzing observations, developing assessments and making recommendations based upon<br />
observations. Practical application is required in a three hour weekly lab.<br />
ECE 152 INTRODUCTION TO CuRRICULUM 3 UNITS<br />

Presents an overview of knowledge and skills related to providing appropriate curriculum and environments for<br />
children from birth to age six. Examines the teacher’s role in supporting development and engagement, emphasizing<br />
the essential role of play. Provides strategies for developmentally appropriate practice across the curriculum based on<br />
observation and assessment. Includes an overview of the content areas of the curriculum, including academic areas,<br />
creativity, communication and language, social-emotional learning and cognitive skills.<br />
ECE 153 CHILD, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY 3 UNITS<br />

Examines the developing child in a societal context focusing on the interrelationship of family, school and the<br />
community, and emphasizes historical and socio-cultural factors. Highlights the processes of socialization and identity<br />
development, showing the importance of respectful, reciprocal relationships that empower families. Includes study of<br />
community resources that support families.<br />
ECE 154 CREATIVE ACTIVITIES 3 UNITS<br />
HOURS: 3 leC FOR CHILDREN CSU<br />
Planning creative curriculum experiences for a group setting that will foster creativity as well as cognitive, social,<br />
emotional and physical development in children. Hands-on instructional approach is used to build a repertoire of<br />
creative activities and skills for supporting creativity in children.<br />
