MATH 291 DIRECTED STUDY 1-5 UNITS<br />

A student may take advanced course work or complete a student designed project in Mathematics after having<br />
completed introductory courses. The topics, learning objectives, educational material(s), number of units to be<br />
awarded, and method of evaluation are determined in a written agreement between the instructor and the student<br />
before the student engages in the learning experience. A “Learning Contract for Directed Studies” must be completed<br />
by the student, approved by the instructor, and Chief Instructional Officer, and placed on file with the Office of<br />
Instruction.<br />
MATH 303 PRE-ALGeBRA I 3 UNITS<br />
HOURS: 3 LEC<br />
This course is designed to benefit the student who needs intensive basic math review or has very limited math<br />
background. This is the first level in the math progression leading to beginning Algebra (MATH 016).<br />
MATH 304 PRE-ALGEBRA II 3 UNITS<br />

This course is designed for students who have good basic math skills but with limited algebra background. This is the<br />
second level in the math progression leading to Beginning Algebra (MATH 016).<br />
MATH 305 SELECTED TOPICS IN 3 UNITS<br />

PRE-ALGEBRA<br />
Topics strategically chosen to allow students to brush-up their pre-algebra skills in order to successfully transfer into<br />
Elementary Algebra, Math 16. This course will cover similar topics that Math 303 and Math 304 offer, but at a quicker<br />
pace.<br />

MUS 101 MUSIC APPRECIATION 3 UNITS<br />

Designed to increase the student’s understanding and enjoyment of music. Explores various composers and types<br />
of musical styles from early music to the present day. Designed for students with little or no musical background.<br />

NURSING<br />
NURS 080 INTRAVENOUS THEraPY/BLOOD 2 UNITS<br />
HOURS: 36 lec<br />
WITHDRAWL<br />
The purpose of this course is to instruct the participant in the principles and practice of intravenous therapy and<br />
blood withdrawal. Included in the course will be the following topics: 1) legal aspects, 2) rationale for treatment/<br />
procedure, 3) psychological preparation of the patient, 4) anatomy of the veins as it relates to choosing an appropriate<br />
site for IV therapy or blood withdrawal, 5) venipuncture equipment, 6) venipuncture and skin puncture techniques, 7)<br />
fluid and electrolyte balance, including acid/base balance, 8) parental fluids, 9) complications and safety factors, 10)<br />
transfusion therapy, and 11) total parental nutrition.<br />
NURS 100 NURSE AIDE 6 UNITS<br />

Course prepares students for the roles and responsibilities of the certified nurse assistant and covers the concepts,<br />
skills, and procedures for providing patient care in the health care field.<br />
