HES 104 SPORTS MANAGEMENT 3 UNITS<br />

This course is designed to examine the academic and professional requirements of coaching and administrating a<br />

sports program. Students will be exposed to the breadth of the coaching & administrating profession by examining<br />

philosophy, goals, objectives, ethics, and practical task orientations.<br />

HES 105 FIRST AID AND SAFETY 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1 LEC<br />

CSU, UC<br />

First aid in emergency and accident situations. Wounds, shock, choking, artificial respiration, adult, child, and infant<br />

CPR, injuries, burns, effects of heat and cold, medical emergencies, and transportation of the injured. Home fire safety.<br />

Upon completion, students qualify for American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate (three year certificate) and<br />

American Red Cross Certification (one year).<br />

HES 108 TRACK & FIELD AND CROSS 0.5-1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 9 LEC; 27 LAB COUNTRY SKILLS CSU, UC<br />

A fitness course that will teach and/or further one’s knowledge in track and field. The class activity is designed to<br />

improve many areas in physical fitness, including: all events in track and field, cardiovascular, muscle toning, flexibility,<br />

and stress reduction.<br />

Beginning through advanced. Ultimate development of individual skills, throwing and catching, and offensive/<br />

defensive team strategy.<br />

Activity class designed for improved cardiovascular, muscle toning and strength with use of weights, flexibility, and<br />

stress reduction.<br />

HES 114 PHYSICAL FITNESS: 0.5-1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1.5-3 LAB STRETCH AND TONE CSU, UC<br />

A fitness program designed to improve muscle tone and strength through a series of deep muscle exercises that<br />

improve flexibility and reduce stress.<br />

HES 115 PHYSicAL FITNESS: 0.5-1 UNIT<br />

Activity class designed for improved cardiovascular fitness. High/Low aerobics, strength training, flexibility, and stress reduction.<br />

HES 118 PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, WELLNESS 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 3 LAB & BEHAVIOR CHANGE CSU<br />

Examines personal awareness and responsibility for maintenance of health, fitness and well-being. Information will<br />

be presented concerning the benefits, positive effects, assessment and implementation of healthy lifestyles through<br />

muscular strength and endurance activities.<br />

HES 119 BODY COMPOSITION: 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 3 LAB THEORY, PRINCIPLES & MANAGEMENT CSU<br />

Examines the relationship between exercise, diet, and body composition during muscular strength and endurance<br />

training. The course is designed to help students to not only receive information on proper lifting technique, but also<br />

to be informed of ways to evaluate and access body max index (BMI) and body fat percentage.<br />

HES 120 WEIGHT TRAINING 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 1.5 LAB<br />

The techniques of weight training. An individually adapted exercise program. Basic development of strength,<br />

endurance, speed, and agility through a controlled weight-training program.<br />

HES 121 MOVEMENT FUNDAMENTALS & 1 UNIT<br />

HOURS: 3 LAB MULTI JOINT TRAINING CSU<br />

This course is designed to help students develop movement skills through resistance training, strength development<br />

and muscular endurance. Focuses on blending together different combinations and sequences of exercises while<br />

conditioning the entire body.<br />
