Federal Programs<br />

PELL Grants<br />

Eligibility for the Pell Grant is determined by the federal government from the FAFSA. The amount of Pell Grant a student<br />

is eligible for (if any) is directly correlated to the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The Pell Grant has a lifetime<br />

maximum for each student of the equivalent of six full-time academic years (or 12 full-time semesters).<br />

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG)<br />

Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are for students with the most financial need who submit the FAFSA<br />

to the federal government by the March 2nd priority deadline. Awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis<br />

until available funds are exhausted.<br />

Federal Work Study (FWS)<br />

The Federal Work-Study program provides jobs for students who have financial aid eligibility and show need. Students<br />

are paid at least the current minimum wage, but some wages are higher based on the type of work and the<br />

skills required. Awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis until available funds are exhausted.<br />

Federal Direct Loan Program<br />

Stafford Loans offered at FRC are Federal Direct Loans that are low interest loans made to students enrolled in at least<br />

6 units (half-time enrollment). The loan funds come directly from the federal government. Students must repay loans;<br />

Federal Direct Loans offer flexible repayment terms. Repayment begins 6 months after the student discontinues their<br />

study program, graduates, or drops below half-time enrollment.<br />

Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans<br />

Federal Direct Parent PLUS loans are available to assist families of dependent students in meeting the costs of education.<br />

The borrowers for these loans are the parents who apply for them, not the students. PLUS loans do involve a<br />

credit check through the federal government.<br />

If a parent applies for and is not approved for a parent PLUS loan, the student is eligible for some additional student<br />

loan funds.<br />
