A comprehensive analysis of the laws and policies that affect water, land, air, fire, wildlife, and vegetation in the<br />

American West. The class will examine the federal land management agencies (history, mission, policies), and issues<br />

specific to wilderness, wildlife, timber, grazing, water, and mining. Cross-listed with ENVR180.<br />

POL 201 INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS 3 UNITS<br />

This course examines the structure and operation of the international political system. The focus will be on global<br />

issues (conflict and cooperation) and the role of the nation-state, non-state actors in topics such as war, peace,<br />

development, trade, environmental issues, the international political economy, and regional and international<br />

arrangements. Prerequisite: POL 101 (or equivalent American Institutions course).<br />

A student may take advanced course work or complete a student designed project in Political Science after having<br />

completed introductory courses. The topics, learning objectives, educational material(s), number of units to be awarded,<br />

and method of evaluation are determined in a written agreement between the instructor and the student before the<br />

student engages in the learning experience. A “Learning Contract for Directed Studies” must be completed by the<br />

student, approved by the instructor, and Chief Instructional Officer, and placed on file with the Office of Instruction.<br />

memory, motivation, emotion, personality, psychological development, intelligence, and psychobiology.<br />

PSY 130 PSYCHOLOGY OF WOMEN 3 UNITS<br />

Explores the psychological, psycho-biological, social, and cultural factors that contribute to gender differences and<br />

the experiences of women. Myths and stereotypes of gender differences will be explored in light of current research,<br />

especially regarding women’s physical and mental health, work, and relationships.<br />

This course is a broad cross-cultural overview of the role of men and women in society. This course explores the<br />

biological, environmental, cultural and economic forces that have affected our attitudes about the positions men<br />

and women can or should play in society. Students in this course will also explore the social patterns of the past,<br />

which continue to shape our lives and relationships today. By acquiring a greater awareness of gender experiences in<br />

different societies, students will gain a broader framework within which to understand the evolving position of men<br />

and women within our own society.<br />
