fundoplications carried out
personally 80-90 percent of the
treated patients report a significcant
improvement of the qualiity
of life. Own studies examiniing
these patients could show
that even many years after the
laparoscopy their quality of life
is still significantly higher than
before the surgery. Post-opeeratively
most patients experieence
a clear strengthening of
the constrictor function of the
lower oesophageal constricttor,
as well as a significantly
lower strain on the oesophagus
from gastric acid. The leading
pre-operative symptoms such
as heartburn, regurgitation and
epigastric feelings of pressure
could be eliminated for a majoriity
of the patients on a longterm
basis.
at a special medical centre and
by experienced surgeons with
high professional expertise.
In summary, we can say that
the minimally invasive therapy
of the gastro-oesophageal
reflux disease is a useful
alternative to life-long medicattion.
Especially the anatomical
morphological function of the
lower part of the oesophagus
is restored in this operation.
The long-term results achieved
so far show that the surgical
therapy leads to a significant
improvement of the quality
of life, long-term success and
low complication rates. An
important factor for a successfful
operation is the treatment
