THE “TURN-IT-OVER” PHENOMENON<br />

Commercial interests and the desire for convenience have done much<br />

to create a “turn-it-over” society. Turn your health over to a doctor, turn<br />

disputes over to a lawyer, turn education over to schools, turn human<br />

feeding over to processors, and turn pet nutrition over to pet food manufacturers.<br />

When financial interests are at stake, individuals cannot be<br />

assured that their best interests are being taken care of since usually the<br />

primary motive of professionals and producers is profit. Serious matters<br />

such as health and nutrition must be returned to their rightful owner, the<br />

individual.<br />

As for commercial pet foods, what should be done Clearly the<br />

“100%” claim should not be permitted. In its place should be honesty in<br />

labeling. A manufacturer should be able to say anything which is true –<br />

ingredient descriptions, processing methods, packaging innovations and<br />
