A course designed to introduce the related<br />

reproduction using Adobe Photoshop.<br />
The effective use of desktop scanners, densitometers<br />
<strong>and</strong> Photoshop’s tools, palettes, plug<br />
ins, modes, path, layers <strong>and</strong> masks will be<br />
discussed <strong>and</strong> utilized within the course content.<br />
Students will be expected to complete lab<br />
assignments in a “h<strong>and</strong>s on” lab environment<br />

This certifi cate level program requirement is<br />
an in-school work experience that expos es the<br />
student to accountability for time, quality, waste<br />
<strong>and</strong> plant maintenance in meeting production<br />
dem<strong>and</strong>s in either pre-press or press/bindery<br />
areas of employ ment. Live work assignments<br />
are obtained by the student from a production<br />
area instructor <strong>and</strong> student performance is evaluated.<br />
The course is designed to provide closely<br />
supervised production experiences of skills <strong>and</strong><br />
concepts which were intro duced in the first<br />
semester. This course also introduces the student<br />
to personnel policies, control <strong>and</strong> delivery,<br />
material specification, procurement <strong>and</strong> inventory,<br />
job tickets, employee evaluation, field trip<br />
reporting <strong>and</strong> career/employment prepara tion.<br />
Prerequisite: Completion of 10 credit hours in<br />

The student will apply the principles of typography,<br />
color theory <strong>and</strong> digital illustration to the<br />
solution of advanced design problems, including<br />
identity design. In class critiques, discussion <strong>and</strong><br />
analysis of work submitted will lead to the development<br />
of sound design practices <strong>and</strong> the ability<br />
to create designs that meet the requirements of<br />
a digital environment. Students will be expected<br />
to complete lab assignments in a “h<strong>and</strong>s on” lab<br />
environment as well as independent work outside<br />
the classroom. Prerequisite: GRC 106.<br />
GRC 218 Digital Photography <strong>and</strong> Imaging<br />

A course designed to support prepress <strong>and</strong> Web<br />
page development in a production setting. It introduces<br />
digital <strong>and</strong> video camera operations, its<br />
functions, processing, planning <strong>and</strong> the production<br />
of photographic images <strong>and</strong> video. Other<br />
areas covered through study <strong>and</strong> lab assignments<br />
are camera <strong>and</strong> computer operations,<br />
exposure metering techniques, lighting conditions,<br />
storyboarding, composition <strong>and</strong> various<br />
applications like Photoshop. The student must<br />
have access to a 4 megapixel or higher digital<br />
camera. Students will be expected to complete<br />
lab assignments in a “h<strong>and</strong>s on” lab environment<br />
as well as independent work outside the<br />

GRC 219 Introduction to New Media<br />

This course introduces the student to Dreamweaver,<br />
a family of computer programs for<br />
Web application <strong>and</strong> development. The goal<br />
of this course is to presents an introduction to<br />
the converting (repurposing) of graphic fi les<br />
used in a commercial printing operation to build<br />
<strong>and</strong> maintain Web site. Software used includes<br />
Dreamweaver <strong>and</strong> Flash with photos <strong>and</strong> video.<br />
Students will be expected to complete lab assignments<br />
in a “h<strong>and</strong>s on” lab environment as<br />
well as independent work outside the classroom.<br />

This course is intended to acquaint the stu dent<br />
with the complexities of developing pricing in the<br />
printing industry. Students will apply past knowledge<br />
gained in a produc tion setting to analyze,<br />
plan, schedule <strong>and</strong> price printing requests. Course<br />
content also includes the application of computers,<br />
marketing <strong>and</strong> management styles, basic hourly<br />
rate costs methods <strong>and</strong> production st<strong>and</strong>ards to<br />
