The College offers educational opportunities<br />
for both transfer to baccalaureate programs<br />
<strong>and</strong> career preparation. Associate in arts <strong>and</strong><br />
associate in science degrees are designed as<br />
the fi rst two years of a more advanced degree.<br />
The associate in applied science degree, <strong>and</strong><br />
certificates are designed to prepare students for<br />
direct entry into the workplace. All graduates are<br />
expected to have a set of core competencies<br />
that will enable them to be qualified <strong>and</strong> productive<br />
members of the workforce <strong>and</strong> to continue<br />
their education after they graduate <strong>and</strong> throughout<br />
their lives.<br />
Accreditation <strong>and</strong><br />
Program Certifications<br />
As the College has grown in size, it has also<br />
grown in quality. In December 1976, the New<br />
Engl<strong>and</strong> Association of Schools <strong>and</strong> Colleges,<br />
Inc. granted <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> Com munity College<br />
initial accredited status (effective 10-8-76).<br />
Continued accreditation was granted in 2008. In<br />
1978 the <strong>Maine</strong> State Board of Education authorized<br />
the College to confer Associate in Applied<br />
Science degrees beginning in January 1979. In<br />
September of 1995 the <strong>Maine</strong> Technical College<br />
System authorized the College to grant associate<br />
in science degrees. In 1998 the associate<br />
in arts degree, which mirrors the first two years<br />
of many bachelor’s degree programs, was authorized.<br />
Several programs have received special recognition<br />
for their quality. The Graphic Communications<br />
program fi rst earned national accreditation<br />
in 1993 <strong>and</strong> meets the PrintEd accreditation<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ards of the Graphic Arts Education <strong>and</strong><br />
Research Foundation (GAERF), 1899 Pre ston<br />
White Drive, Reston, Virginia 20191- 4367, telephone<br />
(703) 264-7200. The program was reaccredited<br />
in January 2006.<br />
The Technology Accreditation Commission of<br />
ABET, Inc., 111 Market Place, Suite 1050, Baltimore,<br />

347-7700, granted initial accreditation to the Architectural<br />
<strong>and</strong> Civil Engineering Technology Associate<br />
Degree program in 1984. The Program<br />
was reac credited in August 2004.<br />
In 1986, the Automotive Technology pro gram<br />
fi rst received continuing full Master Certification<br />
in all eight specialty areas from the National Institute<br />
for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE),<br />

the first program in New Engl<strong>and</strong> to be so recognized.<br />

In 2003, the Ford ASSET program received<br />

the Associate Degree option was granted continuing<br />
accredita tion in 1996 by the Associate<br />

The Precision Machining Technology program<br />

<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College seeks <strong>and</strong><br />
accepts accreditation, certification or recognition<br />
of its programs only when those designations<br />
are consistent with the policies <strong>and</strong> plans<br />
of the College. The Col lege does not guarantee<br />
that those desig nations will be maintained in the<br />
future.<br />
Campus Growth<br />
<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College’s physical<br />
facilities have been enlarged to keep pace with<br />
increased dem<strong>and</strong> for programs <strong>and</strong> services.<br />
In 1967, an addition was completed to the original<br />
instructional facility <strong>and</strong> the first residence<br />
hall was constructed.<br />
In January 1969, another addition, an extension<br />
of the North Wing, was completed <strong>and</strong> later in<br />
the year the entire instructional complex was<br />
designated by the State Board of Education as<br />
the Louis Jalbert Industrial Center, now Jalbert<br />
Hall.<br />
The portion of Jalbert Hall known as the South<br />
Wing was constructed in 1972 <strong>and</strong> exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />
in 1979 <strong>and</strong> 1986. Jalbert Hall now encloses<br />
175,750 sq. ft. (over 4 acres) under a single roof.<br />
In 1975 two apartment style dormitory buildings<br />
<strong>and</strong> the present dining room/kitchen facilities<br />
were ready for use.<br />
A building to house the Culinary Arts program<br />
was completed in 1989.<br />
In November of 1989 <strong>Maine</strong> voters authorized<br />
capital bonding for the 40,000 sq. ft., Geneva A.<br />
Kirk Hall, which houses Nursing, Allied Health<br />
<strong>and</strong> Occupational Health <strong>and</strong> Safety programs;<br />
science laboratories; fitness <strong>and</strong> recreation<br />
facilities, including a gymnasium; <strong>and</strong> the Corporate<br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>Community</strong> Services Division. The<br />
building was dedicated for use on May 6, 1993.<br />
Bonding to fund the new Lapoint Center was approved<br />
by the voters in 1999. The Center, which<br />
opened in fall 2002, houses state-of-the-art<br />
classrooms as well as additional offi ce facilities,<br />
student use areas <strong>and</strong> library access facilities.<br />
To accommodate the dem<strong>and</strong> for additional<br />
on-campus housing, CMCC constructed a new<br />
residence hall which opened in the fall of 2007.<br />
A new nursing simulation lab was completed in<br />
the fall of 2008, the Jalbert lecture hall was completely<br />
renovated in the spring of 2009, <strong>and</strong> a<br />
major renovation of the 400/500 wing of Jalbert<br />
was completed in the spring of 2010.<br />
Location<br />
Located in Auburn at 1250 Turner Street just two<br />
miles from the center of the city, <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> College occupies a picturesque<br />
135-acre site overlooking <strong>and</strong> bordering Lake<br />
Auburn - an ideal setting for learning <strong>and</strong> recreation.<br />
As <strong>Maine</strong>’s second largest urban center,<br />
Auburn-Lewiston offers numerous opportunities<br />
for social, recreational, cultural <strong>and</strong> educational<br />
activities. Auburn is located in the south central<br />
region of <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>and</strong> is the Gateway to the Western<br />
Mountains. It is midway on the <strong>Maine</strong> Turnpike<br />
between <strong>Maine</strong>’s capital, Augusta <strong>and</strong> its<br />
largest city, Portl<strong>and</strong>—approximately 35 miles<br />
from each city.<br />
Off-Campus Locations<br />
In addition to the main campus in Auburn, (Androscoggin<br />
County) <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />
College also serves Franklin, Lincoln, <strong>and</strong> Oxford<br />
Counties.<br />
