Program Description<br />
The Business Administration <strong>and</strong> Management program offers full or part<br />
time students the opportunity to earn a Certificate or an Associate in Applied<br />
Science degree by taking day <strong>and</strong>/or evening courses. The program<br />
of study includes activities found in a mod ern business or industrial organization<br />
including accounting, mar keting, customer relations <strong>and</strong> strategic<br />
planning. Concentrations are offered in Business Administration, Supervision<br />
& Manage ment, Sales Administration & Management, Sports Management<br />
<strong>and</strong> Hospitality Management (See Page 52).<br />
Students must earn a grade of C (not C-) or better in College Writing (ENG<br />
101) <strong>and</strong> Business Communication (ENG 220) in order to meet Certificate<br />
or Associate Degree requirements of this program.<br />
The program is designed to prepare individuals with a wide variety of management<br />
<strong>and</strong> supervisory skills while providing broad expo sure to general<br />
business practices. Sales personnel, office adminis trators, managers <strong>and</strong><br />
professionals require this mix of general knowledge <strong>and</strong> specific expertise<br />
to successfully compete in the world of business. The program is also<br />
designed to provide a strong foundation of skills <strong>and</strong> advanced technical<br />
capability while allowing students to keep their current jobs.<br />
In 1996, the Business program was granted accreditation status by the<br />
Association of Collegiate Business Schools <strong>and</strong> Programs (ACBSP), 7007<br />
College Boulevard, Suite 420, Overl<strong>and</strong> Park, Kansas 66211, telephone<br />
(913) 339-9356. The College remains an active member of the Association.<br />
Career Opportunities<br />
Graduates will be prepared to work in an array of commercial, retail <strong>and</strong><br />
professional offi ce situations. Examples of these positions include first<br />
line supervisors, general managers, food service <strong>and</strong> lodging managers,<br />
professional sales representatives, bookkeep ing <strong>and</strong> accounting clerks<br />
<strong>and</strong> related administrative, industrial <strong>and</strong> professional positions. Graduates<br />
of this program will be pre pared for these occupations with skills <strong>and</strong><br />
knowledge for careers tailored to meet current job requirements <strong>and</strong> future<br />
career growth.<br />
Graduates are also encouraged to continue their education <strong>and</strong> pursue a<br />
Baccalaureate Degree <strong>and</strong>/or seek paths toward specialization in one of<br />
the many functional areas of business (i.e. personnel, training, purchasing,<br />
etc.).<br />
Program Educational Outcomes<br />
Upon completion of the Associate in Applied Science Degree in the Business<br />
Administration Program, the graduate is prepared to:<br />
1. Utilize effective management <strong>and</strong> supervisory skills needed for<br />
working in a business environment.<br />
2. Organize teams, groups, <strong>and</strong> individuals in business situations.<br />
3. Demonstrate oral <strong>and</strong> written presentation skills unique to the business<br />
community.<br />
4. Utilize technology to analyze business problems <strong>and</strong> construct appropriate<br />
solutions.<br />
5. Use analytical <strong>and</strong> problem solving skills, quantitative reasoning,<br />
<strong>and</strong> ethical st<strong>and</strong>ards in a business environment.<br />
6. Diagnose marketing <strong>and</strong> management related issues <strong>and</strong> plan<br />
future actions.<br />
7. Incorporate appropriate business terminology into effective communication<br />
(reading, writing, <strong>and</strong> graphics).<br />
8. Utilize appropriate technology <strong>and</strong> critical thinking skills to assess,<br />
evaluate, <strong>and</strong> apply information.<br />
9. Demonstrate commitment to the concept of life-long learning to<br />
keep current with practices <strong>and</strong> technology in the fi eld <strong>and</strong>/or join<br />
professional associations <strong>and</strong>/or enroll for B.S. degree.<br />

ACC 210, 212; BCA 120 <strong>and</strong> one BCA elective; BUS 100, 110, 120 or 122,<br />
150, 215, 260 <strong>and</strong> one business related elective.<br />
