Tuition <strong>and</strong> Fees<br />

furnish students with tools. Students using College<br />

tools pay a $100 deposit, which is refunded<br />

at the end of the year if the tools are returned in<br />

good condition.<br />

Recording Fee for Portfolio<br />

Assessment <strong>and</strong>/or<br />

Challenge Examinations<br />

The evaluation of learning acquired outside a<br />

sponsored collegiate setting thru portfolio assessment,<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ardized examinations (e.g.,<br />

CLEP, etc.) or <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> Com munity College<br />

course challenge examina tions are sometimes<br />

utilized in the administration of <strong>Central</strong><br />

<strong>Maine</strong> Communi ty College Associate Degree<br />

programs.<br />

<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College admin istered<br />

portfolio assessment <strong>and</strong>/or course challenge<br />

examinations usually take significant amounts<br />

of administrative time <strong>and</strong> paperwork. The Recording<br />

Fee for prior learning evaluation (e.g.<br />

portfolio assess ments or course challenge<br />

examinations, etc.) is equal to one credit hour<br />

tuition charge ($84.00)<br />

The Recording Fee is non-refundable. However,<br />

a refund of pre-paid tuition will be authorized if<br />

a course is successfully chal lenged within the<br />

Add/Drop schedule.<br />

Payment of Bills<br />

Matriculating students are billed by semes ter for<br />

tuition, room <strong>and</strong> board charges, <strong>and</strong> fees. Bills<br />

are payable in full in August for the fall semester<br />

<strong>and</strong> in December for the spring semester. The<br />

late payment fee is $50.00 per month. Failure<br />

to pay a bill with in the prescribed period may<br />

keep a stu dent from receiving grades, degrees,<br />

diplomas <strong>and</strong> transcripts <strong>and</strong>/or completing registration<br />

or being included on official class lists.<br />

<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> Col lege offers an<br />

interest free payment plan for which the fee is<br />

$35.00 <strong>and</strong> $50.00 if the account is delinquent.<br />

The College does not otherwise carry open student<br />

accounts. Students may not attend classes<br />

unless they have paid all bills or have made<br />

payment plan arrangements with the Business<br />

Offi ce for deferred payments.<br />

Non-matriculating part-time students must make<br />

full payment of tuition <strong>and</strong> fees at the time of<br />

course registration. A purchase order or letter<br />

authorizing sponsorship must be submitted to<br />

the Business Office in order to defer payment.<br />

Refund Policy -<br />

Matriculated Students<br />

The Board of Trustees of the <strong>Maine</strong> Com munity<br />

College System has established the following<br />

schedule as policy (No. 402) for refunding tuition<br />

<strong>and</strong> room <strong>and</strong> board pay ments to full <strong>and</strong><br />

part-time matriculated stu dents who withdraw<br />

from the College in accordance with the schedule<br />

<strong>and</strong> provi sion set forth below.<br />

Tuition <strong>and</strong> Room Deposits are refundable for<br />

a period up to 120 days prior to the start of a<br />

semester.<br />

Room <strong>and</strong> Board Refunds*<br />

Official withdrawal from College within 10 class<br />

days of semester:<br />

80% refund<br />

Official withdrawal from College within 11-20<br />

class days:<br />

50% refund<br />

Official withdrawal from College after 20 class<br />

days:<br />

NO refund<br />

Course canceled by College:<br />

100% refund<br />

Note: For purposes of calculating refunds, the<br />

attendance period begins on the first day of the<br />

academic semester <strong>and</strong> ends on the date the<br />

student notifies the Registrar’s Office in writing<br />

of her/his withdrawal.<br />

Resident students who must move out of the<br />

residence halls to participate in a field experience<br />

internship to meet a curriculum requirement<br />

may be eligible for a refund of the unused<br />

portion of room <strong>and</strong> board expenses.<br />

*Students receiving Federal Financial Aid Funds<br />

are subject to m<strong>and</strong>ated federal refund procedures<br />

upon withdrawal from the college. Please<br />

see page 13 for details.<br />

Refund Policy -<br />

Non-Matriculated Students<br />

Non-matriculated students who offi cially withdraw<br />

(drop) from a course within the fi rst ten<br />

class days of the semester or term will be entitled<br />

to a full refund of tuition <strong>and</strong> course fees.<br />

Official “Drop” forms may be obtained from the<br />

Registrar’s Office. Prop erly completed <strong>and</strong> dated<br />

“Drop” forms must be in the Registrar’s Offi ce<br />

prior to the end of the “refund period” above for<br />

the applicable course(s). The Registrar’s Offi ce<br />

will notify the Business Office of all approved<br />

course withdrawals. Refunds usually require<br />

two to four weeks for pro cessing.<br />

Notes<br />

Refund levels may vary for special or short-term<br />

courses depending upon the circumstances. No<br />

refunds are given for terminations resulting from<br />

academic, dis ciplinary or financial dismissal.<br />

Students who believe that individual circumstances<br />

warrant exceptions from the published<br />

policy may appeal to the College President or<br />

his/her designee.<br />

<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College reserves the<br />

right to withhold grades, transcripts, Certificates,<br />

Diplomas or Degrees from students who have<br />

not met all financial obligations to the College.<br />
