Admissions<br />
admissions<br />
<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College wel comes<br />
applications from all persons whose academic<br />
record <strong>and</strong> personal qualifica tions suggest that<br />
they may benefi t from enrollment in any of the<br />
programs offered. Graduation from an approved<br />
high school or passing scores on the General<br />
Educa tional Development (GED) Examination<br />
offered by the <strong>Maine</strong> Department of Educa tion<br />
or other state department of education is required<br />
for admission to the College. Applicants<br />
may also be required to meet special admission<br />
requirements <strong>and</strong> pre requisites established for<br />
the specifi c pro gram of interest. <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong><br />
<strong>Community</strong> College works in active partnership<br />
with regional <strong>and</strong> statewide high schools <strong>and</strong><br />
adult education centers in order to help stu dents<br />
prepare for college requirements.<br />
<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College main tains a<br />
rolling admissions policy for most of its programs<br />
allowing c<strong>and</strong>idates to apply <strong>and</strong> be considered<br />
for acceptance through out the year. Prospective<br />
students will be considered for the next matriculating<br />
class on a fi rst come, first served basis.<br />
All pro grams begin in September. January<br />
admis sion is possible for most programs <strong>and</strong> for<br />
students who wish to begin with primarily general<br />
education courses. Contact the Admissions<br />
Offi ce for more details.<br />
Note to Nursing Program Applicants: Stu dents<br />
for this program are selected on a competitive<br />
basis once per year, to begin each fall semester.<br />
Application materials are accepted between<br />
September 1st <strong>and</strong> January 31st, <strong>and</strong> selection<br />
decisions are made beginning in February<br />
<strong>and</strong> ongoing until the program is full.<br />
Admissions Process<br />
All applications will be evaluated for admis sion<br />
as soon as possible after applicants have submitted<br />
the following:<br />
1. A properly completed Application for<br />
Admission <strong>and</strong> non-refundable $20.00 application<br />
fee.<br />
2. An offi cial high school transcript for<br />
all years attended, including at least the<br />
fi rst marking period of the senior year<br />
(for current high school seniors). A final<br />
transcript will be need ed for all graduating<br />
seniors prior to the first day of classes.<br />
or<br />
Offi cial GED test scores, for non-high<br />
school graduates. Students who have<br />
been matriculated at a regionally accredited<br />
college or university <strong>and</strong> have earned<br />
at least 15 college-level credits do not<br />
need to supply their high school transcript<br />
or GED.<br />
3. If applicable, official college transcript(s)<br />
from all colleges attended. A final transcript<br />
with final grades will be needed prior to the<br />
first day of classes.<br />
4. Documentation of all program prerequisites.<br />
Prerequisites may appear on the<br />
high school or adult education transcripts,<br />
college tran scripts, or other documentation.<br />
Please carefully read the prerequisites for<br />
the preferred program of study. Prospective<br />
applicants who do not meet these requirements<br />
are strongly encouraged to contact<br />
the Admissions Office to discuss alternatives<br />
<strong>and</strong> may start in General Studies.<br />
5. For Nursing Program applicants only:<br />
results of the Nurse Entrance Test (NET)<br />
must be submitted to the Admissions Office<br />
by the January 31 application deadline.<br />
Course Registration/<br />
Enrollment<br />
All accepted students will have to submit one or<br />
more of the following:<br />
Official Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I)<br />
scores meeting College requirements. Applicants<br />
are strongly encouraged to take<br />
SATs, especially if their educational goals<br />
may include transferring to a four-year<br />
institution after <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong><br />
College.<br />
or<br />
<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College Accuplacer<br />
Placement Assessment in reading,<br />
writing, math <strong>and</strong> algebra or English as a<br />
Second Language (ESL). Please call the<br />
Admissions Office to schedule an assessment<br />
session.<br />
or<br />
Prior success (grade C or better) in a college<br />
level English <strong>and</strong>/or math course at a<br />
100 level or above, taken at an accredited<br />
institution.<br />
or<br />
SAT results, Placement Assessment, <strong>and</strong><br />
college level course work are used for academic<br />
counseling <strong>and</strong> course placement.<br />
Results are ana lyzed <strong>and</strong> applicants may<br />
be advised to enroll in preparatory courses<br />
or receive assistance at an adult education<br />
center.<br />
Testing Services<br />
Applicants who do not have SAT scores of 480<br />
or better or have not completed college level<br />
course work in English <strong>and</strong> Mathe matics with a<br />
grade of C or better are required to complete<br />
placement tests in reading, writing, math, <strong>and</strong><br />
basic algebra or ESL, math <strong>and</strong> basic algebra.<br />
<strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College evalu ates<br />
basic academic skills using the College Board’s<br />
Accuplacer® computer based test series. The<br />
tests evaluate basic skills in reading, writing,<br />
mathematics, elementary algebra, <strong>and</strong> ESL using<br />
a series of stan dardized examination questions.<br />
Course level placement <strong>and</strong> scores from the<br />
various tests are used to assess a student’s<br />
basic academic skills <strong>and</strong> assist with academic<br />
advising <strong>and</strong> placement in appropriate courses<br />
or services.<br />
Admissions Prerequisites<br />
All <strong>Central</strong> <strong>Maine</strong> <strong>Community</strong> College cata log<br />
programs require a high school diploma or GED.<br />
The following are high school prerequisites for<br />
admission to these specific programs:<br />
Accounting - Algebra I<br />
Architectural & Civil Engineering Technology -<br />
grade C or better in Algebra I & II, <strong>and</strong> Geometry<br />
(trigonometry <strong>and</strong> physics recommended)<br />
Building Construction Technology - Algebra I<br />
<strong>and</strong> Geometry<br />
Career Studies - Significant career training <strong>and</strong><br />
experience<br />
Computer Technology - Algebra I<br />
Electromechanical Technology - Algebra I,<br />
(Algebra II preferred)<br />
Human Services - Algebra I<br />
Liberal Studies - Must meet ENG 101 <strong>and</strong> MAT<br />
101 prerequisites<br />
Medical Assistant - Biology with laboratory<br />
Nursing - Algebra I, Chemistry with labora tory,<br />
Biology with laboratory, completed application<br />
process <strong>and</strong> results of the Nurse Entrance Test<br />
(NET) by January 31st each year for competitive<br />
review process.<br />
