According to the 2001 Census, the total population <strong>of</strong> the district <strong>of</strong> Badulla is<br />
774,555.<br />
Loans<br />
According to the survey, there were 136,225 loans taken in the district during the<br />
year 2000. The total value <strong>of</strong> loans disbursed for the same period is SLR<br />
640,340,703. Excluding NGOs, this equates to an average sum <strong>of</strong> SLR 5,793.00<br />
per loan.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total number <strong>and</strong> volume <strong>of</strong> loans referred to in the<br />
table above is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> one loan per 5.69 people or SLR 826.72 per<br />
person in the district for the year 2000.<br />
Savings<br />
Total savings in 2000 amount to SLR 723807123. A total number <strong>of</strong> 347,971<br />
savings accounts were identified. Excluding Samurdhi <strong>and</strong> TCCSs (for whom<br />
individual savings figures are not available), <strong>and</strong> local NGOs, 344,359 savings<br />
accounts totalling SLR 619,562,123 give an average <strong>of</strong> SLR 1,799.18 per<br />
individual savings account.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total amount <strong>of</strong> savings as <strong>of</strong> the close <strong>of</strong> the year<br />
2000 is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> SLR 934.48 per person in the district or one savings<br />
accounts per 2.23 people.
