According to the Government Agent, the total population <strong>of</strong> Mannar (cleared) is<br />
128,000.<br />
Loans<br />
According to the survey, there were 760 loans taken in the district during the year<br />
2000. The total value <strong>of</strong> loans disbursed for the same period is SLR 10,333,000.<br />
This equates to an average sum <strong>of</strong> SLR 13,596.05 per loan.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total number <strong>and</strong> volume <strong>of</strong> loans referred to in the<br />
table above is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> one loan per 168.42 people or SLR 80.73 per<br />
person in the district for the year 2000.<br />
Savings<br />
Total savings in 2000 amount to SLR 8,770,980. A total <strong>of</strong> 12,898 savings<br />
accounts were identified giving a average <strong>of</strong> SLR 680.03 per individual savings<br />
account in the year 2000.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total amount <strong>of</strong> savings as <strong>of</strong> the close <strong>of</strong> the year<br />
2000 is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> SLR 68.52 per person in the district or one savings<br />
account per 9.92 people.<br />
Local NGOs<br />
The 2 NGOs identified in the survey, the Rural Development Foundation <strong>and</strong> the<br />
Mannar Association <strong>of</strong> Rehabilitation <strong>and</strong> Resettlement are both funded by the<br />
DRC. As <strong>of</strong> December 2001, the DRC has funded a total <strong>of</strong> SLR 12,900,000 to<br />
these 2 organisations. In the financial year 2000-2001, DRC allocated SLR 7,<br />
150,000 for RLFs. These figures are included in the DRC’s figures in the table<br />
above.
