According to the 2001 Census, the total population <strong>of</strong> Kalutara is 1,060,800.<br />
Loans<br />
According to the survey, there were 78945 loans taken in the district during the<br />
year 2000. The total value <strong>of</strong> loans disbursed for the same period is SLR<br />
829,132,135. Excluding NGOs, this equates to an average <strong>of</strong> SLR 10,524.84 per<br />
loan.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total number <strong>and</strong> volume <strong>of</strong> loans referred to in the<br />
table above is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> one loan per 13.44 people or SLR 781.61 per<br />
person in the district for the year 2000.<br />
Savings<br />
Total savings in 2000 amount to SLR 1,283,404,631. A total number <strong>of</strong> 292,429<br />
savings accounts were identified. Excluding Samurdhi <strong>and</strong> TCCSs (for whom<br />
individual savings figures are not available) <strong>and</strong> local NGOs, 281,241 savings<br />
accounts totalling SLR 829,920,585 give an average <strong>of</strong> SLR 2,950.92 per<br />
individual savings account.<br />
In terms <strong>of</strong> population, the total amount <strong>of</strong> savings as <strong>of</strong> the close <strong>of</strong> the year<br />
2000 is the equivalent <strong>of</strong> SLR 1,209.85 per person in the district or one savings<br />
account per 3.63 people.
