Local NGOs<br />

4 NGOs were identified in the survey. A total <strong>of</strong> 597 S&C groups <strong>and</strong> 5,300<br />

members were recorded.<br />

Loans<br />

A total number <strong>of</strong> 325 loans were issued in the year 2000. A total sum <strong>of</strong> SLR<br />

2,200,000 was disbursed for the same period. 1 NGO provided complete loans<br />

information. From this, an average <strong>of</strong> SLR 6,769.23 per loan can be calculated.<br />

Interest rates charged on loans is between 20% <strong>and</strong> 24%<br />

Savings<br />

A total number <strong>of</strong> 3000 savings accounts existed by the end <strong>of</strong> the year 2000. A<br />

total sum <strong>of</strong> SLR 1,300,000 was saved. Of the 2 NGOs providing complete<br />

savings information, an average <strong>of</strong> SLR 433.33 per savings account can be<br />

calculated. Interest rates paid on savings ranges between 11% <strong>and</strong> 14%.<br />

District Notes<br />

UNDP fund micr<strong>of</strong>inance activity in this district funds a total <strong>of</strong> 39 S&C groups<br />

with 2,282 members who had collective savings <strong>of</strong> SLR 432,788, disbursing<br />

2,934 loans with a total value <strong>of</strong> SLR 9,331,067 as <strong>of</strong> Sept 2001. For more details<br />
