SIDEWALK INSPECTION PROCEDUREPurpose: To ensure that new sidewalks installed in the <strong>Town</strong> limits <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kernersville</strong> arein a proper workman condition prior to the issuance <strong>of</strong> a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Occupancy (CO).Time <strong>of</strong> Inspection: The sidewalk inspection will be conducted at the end <strong>of</strong> the COinspection process prior to the issuance <strong>of</strong> a Certificate <strong>of</strong> Occupancy.Inspection Procedure: The Head <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kernersville</strong> Inspection Division orhis/her designee shall conduct the inspection. The inspector shall examine the sidewalkfor damage such as cracks, missing pieces, etc. If no damage is observed, thesidewalk will be passed. If damage is observed, the sidewalk will fail.Failure <strong>of</strong> CO: If a sidewalk has been failed during an inspection, the Certificate <strong>of</strong>Occupancy will be denied until such repairs have been made to the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> thePublic Works Department.Referral <strong>of</strong> Failure: The inspection ticket with the location <strong>of</strong> failure will be faxed to the<strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Kernersville</strong> Public Works Department. The Public Works Department willdetermine the disposition <strong>of</strong> the failure.Notification <strong>of</strong> Abatement <strong>of</strong> Failure: Once the requirements <strong>of</strong> abatement by thePublic Works Department have been met by the owner and/or future occupant, thePublic Works Department shall notify the Inspection Services Division by faxing theinspection ticket with a statement <strong>of</strong> the abatement. Upon receiving the disposition <strong>of</strong>the failure, the Inspection Services Division shall issue a CO for the Occupancy.
