UHF/700 MHz P25 Radio Communications SystemRequestion for ProposalsCaroline County, VirginiaK. Wiring methods:1. All wiring noted on the site drawings or otherwise included by theSELECTED VENDOR shall be installed in conduit or ductwork. Where noprotection method is specified, conduit shall be used.2. All conduits and ducts shall be securely surface mounted and supported byapproved clamps, brackets, or straps as applicable and held in place withproperly selected screws. No wiring shall be imbedded inside any walls,floor or ceiling. Entrance power, outside light, air conditioning outlet andTelco are the only wiring that may penetrate shelter walls or floor.3. All wire raceway, conduit, etc., is to be mechanically joined and secured.4. Flexible steel conduit or armored cable shall protect wiring connected tomotors, fans, etc., and other short runs where rigid conduit is not practical.5. Unless otherwise specified, all power wiring shall be a minimum 12 AWGsize solid copper conductors with insulation rated for 600 Volts alternatingcurrent (AC).L. Light fixtures:1. Ceiling mounted four-foot fluorescent light fixtures (two 40 watt bulbs perfixture) with RFI ballasts shall be supplied for the equipment shelters. Asufficient quantity of light fixtures shall be supplied to provide a uniform lightlevel throughout the building of 150 foot candles at four feet above the floor.2. Light fixtures shall be fed as a gang from a common breaker and controlledby an on/off switch near the door.M. Outdoor lighting:1. An exterior fluorescent wall mounted light shall be mounted over the frontentrance of the shelter.2. The exterior lighting system shall be fed from a separate, appropriatelyrated breaker and light switch by the door.N. Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC):1. RESPONDENT shall propose dual AC units with lead-lag controller andadjustable, digital industrial quality thermostat. Each AC unit shall be sizedMay 27, 2011 Page 55 of 134

The SELECTED VENDOR shall perform BTU analysis (heat loadcalculations) for all shelter equipment during preliminary design to verifyHVAC system size. All calculations shall include a 50% expansion factor,and all assumptions regarding power consumption, duty factor, and heatloading shall be thoroughly explained.3. Each unit shall be sized to maintain an inside ambient temperature rangebetween 65 and 85 degrees F when the outside temperature is between -10and 100 degrees F.O. Grounding:1. A halo ground system shall be installed utilizing #2/0 AWG stranded copperwire with down conductors at each corner.2. A 1” Schedule 40 PVC sleeve shall be installed at 45 degrees through wallsfor ground exits.3. Ground bar kits shall be included with interior and exterior ground buss barsand exterior copper straps shall be located at the cable entry port.P. Antenna cable conduit entry – A bulkhead panel shall be supplied toaccommodate coaxial transmission lines between 1/2” and 1 5/8” diameterelliptical waveguides. A minimum of 12 transmission lines shall beaccommodated with 4” openings. The building manufacturer shall seal theconduits into the wall to assure that they are watertight. All unused entranceports shall be sealed with a removable insert.Q. Cable tray – All new shelters will be equipped with cable trays. The SELECTEDVENDOR or subcontractor shall supply and install up to 60’ of 18” wide cableladder/tray.R. One 4’ x 6’ x 3/4” TELCO board shall be installed.S. Shelters shall be supplied with at least one 10 pound CO 2 fire extinguisher, anapproved eye wash station and first aid kit.May 27, 2011 Page 56 of 134
