IBM ConfidentialChapter 6. Using the Tivoli Storage Manager schedulerThis section demonstrates how to use the Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler withData Protection for Exchange to automate a full Legacy back up of ExchangeServer storage groups. You can automate a full backup of Exchange Server storagegroups as well. We recommend that you have the most current Tivoli StorageManager backup-archive client installed. For VSS operations, it is recommended that you set up different schedules to meetthe policy needs that are defined for your Legacy and VSS backups.Once Data Protection for Exchange has been registered to a Tivoli Storage Managerserver and installed on the Exchange Server, the procedure involves the followingsteps:1. On the Tivoli Storage Manager server:a. Define a schedule to run a Windows command file in the policy domain towhich Data Protection for Exchange is registered.b. Associate the Data Protection for Exchange node to the defined schedule.2. On the machine where Data Protection for Exchange and the Exchange Serverare installed:a. Install the Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler client as a Windows service forData Protection for Exchange. If a scheduler already exists for the regularTivoli Storage Manager backup-client, install another one for DataProtection for Exchange.b. Define a command file that contains Data Protection for Exchangecommands to perform the desired backup.c. If you are running in a cluster server environment, install the Tivoli StorageManager scheduler as a Windows service on both cluster nodes.d. If you are running in a cluster server environment, create a new clusterresource that represents the Tivoli Storage Manager scheduler. Verify thatthe cluster resource is started.e. Start the scheduler installed in step 2a (this is step 2.1 in some HTMLbrowsers).ExampleProcedureThis example assumes the following environment:v Data Protection for Exchange is registered to a Tivoli Storage Manager server:– The node name is mynode.– The password is mypassword.– The policy domain is mydomain.v The event to be scheduled:– A daily full Legacy backup of all storage groups.– The backups begin between 9:00 and 9:15 pm.v Exchange Server 2003 is installed on a Windows 2003 system.115
