The account must be a member of the local Administrators group for themachine on which the Exchange server is running.Review the “VSS restore considerations” before attempting any type of VSS restore.(Legacy restores only) When performing a Legacy restore of mailbox databases, ifa Recovery Storage Group exists, mailbox databases will be restored to theRecovery Storage Group instead of to the original storage group. Also, whenrestoring a mailbox database to a Recovery Storage Group, you must specify theReplay Restored Logs Only option or the restore operation may fail. This noteONLY applies to Legacy restores. VSS restores to the Recovery Storage Group areNOT supported by Microsoft with Exchange Server 2003 and Exchange Server2007.When you restore a storage group, be aware that data which exists in the storagegroup is overwritten and is no longer available after the restore is complete.|||||Perform the following steps to restore an Exchange server storage group:1. Start the Data Protection for Exchange GUI.2. Click on the Restore tab.3. From the Tree View, select the Exchange server storage group to restore. Torestore a particular database, first highlight the storage group in the Tree View.Then select the database to be restored in the List View. To restore all availablestorage groups, select the Exchange server in the Tree View.The List View displays the following information about your backups:v Backup Method (Legacy or VSS)v Type (Full, Incremental, Differential, Copy, Database Copy)v Backup Location (TSM Server or VSS Device)v Management Class (The Tivoli Storage Manager server management class towhich the backup belongs.)4. If you want to restore the Exchange Server 2007 storage group into theRecovery Storage Group or into an alternate storage group, right-mouse clickon the selected storage group and click on the Restore into option. Select thesame storage group name (as the one being restored) from the list of availablestorage groups.5. Select the appropriate restore options in the Restore Options section. See“Restore options” on page 60 for details.6. Click on the Restore button to begin the restore operation.VSS restore considerationsBe aware of the following considerations when performing VSS restores. Unlessotherwise specified, ″VSS restores″ refers to all restore types that use VSS (VSSRestore, VSS Fast Restore, VSS Instant Restore):v VSS restores ignore the Recovery Storage Group and are placed directly into theproduction database.v The VSS Backups to be restored must be from the same snapshot (i.e. contain thesame timestamp). VSS Backups that contain different timestamps must berestored one at a time and cannot be restored together in a single operation.v A VSS Instant Restore overwrites the entire contents of the source volumes.However, you can avoid overwriting the source volumes by selecting theChapter 4.
