IBM ConfidentialAppendix C. Silent installationAdministrators can install Data Protection for Exchange using silent installation. Asilent installation runs on its own without any intervention so that administratorsare freed from the task of monitoring the installation and providing input to dialogboxes. This method is especially useful when Data Protection for Exchange mustbe installed on a number of different computers with identical hardware. Forexample, a company may have 25 Exchange Servers spread out across 25 differentsites. To ensure a consistent configuration and to avoid having 25 different peopleenter Data Protection for Exchange parameters, an administrator may choose toproduce an unattended install and make it available to the 25 sites by cutting andsending out 25 CDs or by placing the unattended install package on a file server.You can perform a silent installation using one of the following methods:SetupProgramUse the setup command with the command-line invocation and specialsilent installation options.Microsoft Installer (MSI)Use msiexec.exe to install the MSI package.The following options can be used with both silent installation methods:Table 15.
