Louis Schweitzer has extensive leadership experience atboth executive and non-executive levels in large, multinationalcompanies. He is Non-Executive Chairman of AB Volvo and aNon-Executive Director of BNP-Paribas, Veolia Environnement SAand L’Oréal SA. Previously he has held the roles of Non-ExecutiveChairman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Renault SA.2 David Brennan (58)Executive Director and Chief Executive OfficerAppointed as a Director in March 2005 and as CEO in January2006. David Brennan is President of the International Federation ofPharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) and a memberof the executive board of the European Federation of PharmaceuticalIndustries and Associations (EFPIA). He is a past Chairman of theboard of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America(PhRMA) and remains a member of the PhRMA board. From 2001until January 2006, he was President and Chief Executive Officer ofthe Company’s North American subsidiary. He was Chairman of theboard of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the AmericanHeart Association 2004-2006. He began his career in 1975 at Merck,where he started as a sales representative in the US division andlater worked in sales and marketing management in the US andinternational divisions. He joined Astra Merck in 1992 and helped tobuild the joint venture into a multi-billion dollar business in the US.He is an alumnus of Gettysburg College where he studied BusinessAdministration.3 Simon Lowth (50)Executive Director and Chief Financial OfficerAppointed as a Director and as CFO in November 2007. Simon Lowthis also a Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered PLC. He waspreviously at ScottishPower Energy where he was Finance Director,a position he left following completion of the sale of the company toIberdrola S.A. His move to ScottishPower followed 15 years’ experiencewith the global management consultancy, McKinsey & Company,where he advised leading multinational companies on a wide rangeof strategic, financial and operational issues. He has an engineeringdegree from Cambridge University and an MBA from the LondonBusiness School.4 Michele Hooper (60)Senior independent Non-Executive Director, Chairman of the AuditCommittee and member of the Nomination and Governance CommitteeAppointed as a Director in July 2003 and as senior independentNon-Executive Director in April 2007. Michele Hooper is a recognisedcorporate governance expert and has considerable healthcareindustry expertise. She is President and Chief Executive Officer ofThe Directors’ Council, a private company which she co-founded in2003, that works with corporate boards to increase their independence,effectiveness and diversity, and a non-executive member of theboards of UnitedHealth Group Inc. and PPG Industries, Inc. Previouslyshe was President and Chief Executive Officer of Stadtlander DrugCompany, Inc. and Corporate Vice-President and President,International Businesses of Caremark International.5 Bruce Burlington (63)Non-Executive Director and member of the Science Committeeand the Audit CommitteeAppointed as a Director in August 2010. Bruce Burlington is apharmaceutical product development and regulatory affairs consultantand brings extensive experience in those areas to the Board. He isalso a non-executive board member of Cangene Corporation and amember of the scientific advisory boards of the International MedicalFoundation and H. Lundbeck A/S. Previously he spent 17 years withthe FDA, serving as director of the FDA’s Center for Devices andRadiological Health as well as holding a number of senior roles in theCenter for Drug Evaluation and Research. After leaving the FDA heserved in a series of senior executive positions at Wyeth (now partof Pfizer).6 Jean-Philippe Courtois (51)Non-Executive Director and member of the Audit CommitteeAppointed as a Director in February 2008. Jean-Philippe Courtoishas close to 30 years’ experience in the global technology industryand is President of Microsoft International, a board member ofPlaNet Finance and Microsoft’s official representative at the InstitutMontaigne. Previously he was Chief Executive Officer and Presidentof Microsoft EMEA and has served as co-chairman of the WorldEconomic Forum’s Global Digital Divide Initiative Task Force andon the European Commission Information and CommunicationTechnology Task Force.
