<strong>M6</strong> GROUP PRESENTATION Cable and satellite channels: Distribution of advertising market shares (gross data, in %)The distribution of <strong>the</strong> gross advertising market of cable and satellite channels, which <strong>to</strong>talled €855.7million in <strong>2012</strong>, down 2.3%, potentially involves more than a hundred channels.1.5.1.3. <strong>M6</strong> Group TV market positioning and strategy in <strong>2012</strong>Overall, <strong>the</strong> Group’s advertising agency, <strong>M6</strong> Publicité, achieved a <strong>to</strong>tal market share of 22.8% in <strong>2012</strong>(<strong>to</strong>tal gross + net advertising market share, measured by adding terrestrial, DTT, cable and satelliterevenue, source Kantar Media) of <strong>the</strong> whole TV advertising market, compared <strong>to</strong> 22.4% in 2011, thusmaintaining its position as <strong>the</strong> second advertising agency in France.a) Free-<strong>to</strong><strong>to</strong>-air television <strong>M6</strong> channelIn a his<strong>to</strong>ric channel advertising market (excluding self-promotion) which increased by a moderate 1.0%in <strong>2012</strong> in gross data (source: Kantar Media), <strong>the</strong> <strong>M6</strong> channel saw its gross advertising expenditure grow2.9%, translating in<strong>to</strong> a 4.3% decrease in net advertising revenue. This decline was characterised by adrop in advertising volume (<strong>the</strong> advertising time of his<strong>to</strong>rical channels fell 3.9% over <strong>the</strong> period), and a fallin <strong>the</strong> number of brands featured on screen.Against this background, <strong>the</strong> <strong>M6</strong> TV network managed <strong>to</strong> confirm its market shares in Food & Drink,Au<strong>to</strong>motive/Transport and Distribution.The consolidation of <strong>M6</strong>’s position should be seen in <strong>the</strong> light of <strong>the</strong> channel’s strong resilience in <strong>the</strong> faceof audience fragmentation: with 11.2% ratings among all audiences in <strong>2012</strong>, <strong>M6</strong> was <strong>the</strong> French channelthat reported <strong>the</strong> most significant increase in audience ratings and was <strong>the</strong> only his<strong>to</strong>ric channel <strong>to</strong> reportgrowth. In <strong>2012</strong>, <strong>M6</strong> confirmed its ranking as <strong>the</strong> third nationwide channel for all audiences and <strong>the</strong>second most watched nationwide channel at prime time.This is evidenced by <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>M6</strong> is increasingly often <strong>the</strong> leading channel at night: in <strong>2012</strong>, <strong>M6</strong> was<strong>the</strong> leader for all audiences on 50 nights (compared <strong>to</strong> 41 nights in 2011 and 19 in 2010) and attractedmore than 4 million prime-time viewers on approximately one hundred occasions, which is more than onenight out of four.The best audience ratings of <strong>the</strong> year were achieved by a Euro <strong>2012</strong> football match, i.e. Sweden vs.France, which attracted 12.2 million viewers and was <strong>the</strong> 2 nd all-time audience performance of <strong>the</strong>channel.All types of programmes reported strong audience growth this year (magazines, newscasts, sports,series, French drama, etc.). “L’amour est dans le pré” thus had its best season since its creation with anaverage of 6.4 million viewers.<strong>M6</strong> was also able <strong>to</strong> assert itself at access prime-time due <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> quality of its programmes. Le 19 45 andScènes de ménages thus enabled <strong>M6</strong> <strong>to</strong> retain <strong>the</strong> lead amongst under 50 year-old housewives on morethan one night out of three. The evening newscast is beating record after record and reached 4.4 millionviewers in <strong>2012</strong>.
