SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY<strong>2012</strong> was <strong>the</strong> year in which actions recommended following this survey were implemented: actionspromoting mobility, <strong>the</strong> simplification of training, <strong>the</strong> introduction of an Individual Account Statementenabling <strong>the</strong> clarification of remuneration items for each employee, <strong>the</strong> modernisation of <strong>the</strong> displaysystem, <strong>the</strong> clearing of inboxes, etc.7.2. Corporate responsibilityThe responsibilities and commitments of <strong>M6</strong> Métropole Télévision come from <strong>the</strong> general principles se<strong>to</strong>ut in <strong>the</strong> Law of 30 September 1986 as amended. Pursuant <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> provisions of Article 28-1 of <strong>the</strong> Lawof 30 September 1986 as amended, and following <strong>the</strong> decision n° 2001-107 of 27 February 2001 infavour of <strong>the</strong> renewal of <strong>the</strong> authorisation held by Métropole Télévision without launching a call forcandidates, additional requirements were included in <strong>the</strong> agreement concluded with <strong>the</strong> ConseilSupérieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA).7.2.1. A framework that guarantees a high level of commitment <strong>to</strong>French society7.2.1.1. Excerpts of <strong>the</strong> agreement between <strong>the</strong> Conseil Supérieur del’Audiovisuel and <strong>M6</strong> Métropole Télévision in terms of general andprofessional ethics obligationsThese obligations, mentioned in <strong>the</strong> Agreement concluded with <strong>the</strong> CSA, notably include general andprofessional ethics obligations that guarantee a major commitment <strong>to</strong> French society, in relation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>following (please find below excerpts of <strong>the</strong> <strong>M6</strong> Channel’s agreement with <strong>the</strong> CSA, available in full onwww.csa.fr):- The Company is responsible for <strong>the</strong> content of <strong>the</strong> programmes that it broadcasts. Pursuant <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>constitutional freedom of speech and communication, as well as <strong>the</strong> company’s edi<strong>to</strong>rial freedom,<strong>the</strong> latter watches over compliance with <strong>the</strong> principles enacted in <strong>the</strong> following articles.- The Company ensures that <strong>the</strong> programmes it broadcasts are selected, designed and producedunder conditions that guarantee its edi<strong>to</strong>rial independence, in particular in relation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> businessinterests of its shareholders (…)- The Company commits <strong>to</strong> refrain from establishing any business or financial relationship betweencompanies of <strong>the</strong> Métropole Télévision Group and that of <strong>the</strong> principal shareholder or controllingshareholders that would diverge from usual business conditions noted in <strong>the</strong> market (…).In relation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> plurality of expression of ways of thinking and opinions- The Company guarantees <strong>the</strong> plurality of expression of ways of thinking and opinions.In relation <strong>to</strong> public life- Pursuant <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> information, <strong>the</strong> Company ensures compliance with <strong>the</strong> presumption ofinnocence, respect for privacy and <strong>the</strong> anonymity of juvenile delinquents.- Programme content must not encourage delinquent or uncivil behaviour, it must respect <strong>the</strong> generalpublic’s various political, cultural and religious sensitivities, it must not encourage discrimina<strong>to</strong>rybehaviours based on race, gender, religion or nationality, it must promote <strong>the</strong> French Republic’svalues of integration and solidarity and take in<strong>to</strong> consideration, in on-air representation, <strong>the</strong> diversityof origin and <strong>the</strong> cultures of <strong>the</strong> French community.- Every year, <strong>the</strong> channel informs <strong>the</strong> CSA of its commitments <strong>to</strong> encourage <strong>the</strong> representation of <strong>the</strong>diversity of French society in its programmes for <strong>the</strong> coming year.In relation <strong>to</strong> individual rights- The Company must guarantee personal dignity and individual rights relating <strong>to</strong> privacy, image, honourand reputation, and ensure restraint is shown in <strong>the</strong> broadcast of images or testimonials liable <strong>to</strong>humiliate people, avoid complacency in reporting human suffering, and ensure that individuals’testimonies on facts regarding <strong>the</strong>ir private life are only collected with <strong>the</strong>ir informed consent.In relation <strong>to</strong> child and teenager protection- The family-friendly nature of <strong>the</strong> Company’s programming should be reflected at times where ayounger audience is most likely <strong>to</strong> be watching TV, i.e. between 6am and 10pm. Within <strong>the</strong>se timeslots, and all <strong>the</strong> more so in <strong>the</strong> portion devoted <strong>to</strong> youth programmes, violence, even psychological,<strong>M6</strong> GROUP - <strong>2012</strong> REGISTRATION DOCUMENT - 253
