PRAYER DEFINEDOn the other hand, a really wise man also tries,like the former, to collect means of a comfortableexistence; but unlike the other, these do not, inhis case, form an obsession with him. Behind allhis efforts, he sees the hand of God and is neverbothered by success or failure in his endeavors.He leaves the result to the “Divine Will”, for thatalone knows what is good for him to possess. Ifthings come to him as he desires, he does not feelelated but accepts them with sincere thanks andwith a grateful heart. But, if things turn the otherway, he does not feel dejected, but smilingly bowsdown his head before the Supreme Judge whodecided otherwise; and at every step he prays toGod, for he knows that without His active aid,he cannot do anything by himself.“<strong>Prayer</strong>” is, in a strict sense, another name forcollecting the outgoing and wandering facultiesof the mind, at the root of the mind. Like the raysof the sun, these spread out into the world, andlikewise these can be withdrawn and collected attheir source. A person in infatuation with a thingwhich he cannot get, or in distress and distractionover some calamity from which he cannotescape, sets his face toward God for successin his endeavors or comfort in his woebegonecondition as the case may be. This concentration,while begging for help, is called prayer.Human mind is the throne of God and henceit is, at times, termed Kaaba.3
