APPENDIX PRAYER B DEFINED — SIMRANThe daily routine of life, says Kabir, doesnot interfere with the Simran. The villagemaids, as they go to fetch water, carry pitchersof water one above the other on their heads;and in spite of an unseen path, they keepjesting and talking among themselves whilethe pitchers remain steady on their heads, astheir attention is pertinently fixed on them.Similarly one need not forget Simran even inthe midst of the hustle and bustle of life andworldly obligations.Kabir again says, “Attend to prayer as kinedo the calves, Who grazing on the lea neverforget their young.”When a grazier takes the cows for grazing,they do not forget the young ones they leavebehind at home. All the while they are busygrazing in the field their attention remainsfixed on their calves. In this way while engagedin worldly pursu<strong>its</strong>, we should not forget ouraim and objective in life, i.e., God Realization.Kabir gives another example to explainand bring home the fact that we should dothe remembrance of the Lord. “Attend to theprayers as misers do the wealth, With mindforever fixed on the hoarded pelf.”A pauper collects his money by beggingcoppers and keeps counting the same dayand night.
