PRAYERBy concentration, a feeling of numbness graduallycreeps up on the hands and feet andspreads on to the rest of the body until thesensory current gets focused on the centerof the soul behind the two eyebrows (fromwhence during wakefulness it proceeds). Theconcentrated energy then falls back upon theveil behind the eyes which is rent asunder,opening a brilliant vista ahead. The sun andthe moon, in turn, appear with a melodiousSound Current emerging from beyond. Theseunbroken strains of music continue of their ownaccord. When this stage is reached an aspiranthas nothing more to do except to be absorbed inthem.Kabir goes on further saying that: “Truerosary lies in the mind, the rest is all sham anda worldly show; Lo, the rosary on the Persianwheel draws water alone.”Simran, to be effective, should be characterizedby love, affection, and devotion. If therosary alone were to lead to God, then the bigrosary on the Persian wheel could, as well, dothe same thing. But our daily experience showsthat they fail to achieve any such thing (rosarieson the Persian wheel are the ropes to which thewater pots are attached, and they fetch wateronly and nothing else).222
