They themselves draw theirpowers from Him and may not grant thepetty boons that lie within their sphere, andcertainly cannot grant salvation to the soul. Afreed soul can grant freedom and no one elsecan. Guru Arjan tells us that God alone canremedy all types of maladies, no matter whetherphysical (like aches, ailments and various typesof diseases), astral (like unforeseen and unpredictabledisasters from accidents, thunder andlightning, floods and earthquakes, etc.), or causal(ingrained and inherent evil propensities likelust, anger, greed, attachment and egoism).9
