Heinquired of his queens as to what gift each ofthem would like him to bring for them fromthe foreign lands. One of them asked for costlyjewels, another for rich apparel, and still anotherfor cosmetics. Some asked for fineries and othersfor delicacies, etc. The youngest of them, wholoved the king most, requested his early return sothat she would not have to languish long in hisabsence. The king on his return sent the variousgifts to his other queens and himself went to thepalace of the youngest, and was highly pleasedthat there was someone who loved him the most,much more than his riches and wealth. Thequeen too, thanked God for her good fortune thather husband was with her and that she needednothing else. The rest of the queens, thougheach one of them had got what she wanted, hadnot the good fortune to claim their husband’sattention. All their riches and gifts availed themnot without their beloved.72
