Hughes Hall are attractive,upscale apartment buildings offering students a private bedroomand a semi-private bathroom, shared kitchen facilities,and living and dining areas. Each apartment is fully furnishedand houses four students. Rent includes all utilities includingheat, air conditioning, Internet access, cable television, localphone service, and off-street parking. The complex of sevenbuildings, when complete, will include a mix of two- andthree-story buildings housing a total of 136 students. Allbuildings will include handicap-accessible apartments. (Promoting AcademicSuccess for Students)New students are encouraged to participate in the ProjectP.A.S.S. workshops, which are an extended orientationfor four weeks each semester. The seminars introduceparticipating students to important skills such as timemanagement and study techniques and are designed to assiststudents in making a successful adjustment to college.Personal CounselingStudents enrolled at Venango Campus have access toconfidential professional counseling, support groups, andworkshops offered by Counseling Services. The office canhelp students with concerns related to personal, social, andemotional adjustments. Counselors can also help individualsset developmental, educational, and career goals.Athletics and FitnessEach year, students participate in softball, golf, volleyball,basketball, table tennis, pool, and bowling events. Studentsmay also use the recreation and fitness equipment at the OilCity YMCA or use new exercise facilities available in theRobert W. Rhoades Center.Student GovernmentThe Student Senate, the student governing body at<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>–Venango Campus, is comprised of fivereturning students and four new students, all of whom areelected by the student body. The senate develops a budgetfor student events that is funded by the student activity feeand makes recommendations to the executive dean in theareas of policy and campus improvements.Student Health ServicesEmergency room visits and emergency ambulancetransport to UPMC Northwest Medical Center are providedfree-of-charge for Venango Campus students. Laboratorywork, X-rays, and prescription drugs are not included, andthe student must pay the costs of these services.Alcohol and drug awareness education/training isavailable through the Keeling Health Center at the <strong>Clarion</strong>Campus.Student Organizations and EventsInvolvement is important to gain the most fromthe college experience. At Venango Campus, studentorganizations provide an opportunity for networking withother students who share common interests. By taking anactive part in an organization, students learn career-relatedleadership skills and have fun, too. Students playan integral part in planning campus events and projects. Avariety of leadership workshops, which provide students theopportunity to enhance skills or learn new ones, are offeredthroughout the year. Many events are family-oriented, andstudents and families are encouraged to participate.
