Redick. Theawards are available to full-time students who are active in the ReturningAdult and Commuting Students organization. Selection criteriainclude financial need, academic performance, and community service.Additional information may be obtained from the RACS organizationadvisor at 814-393-2272.The Diane L. Reinhard Student Housing Scholarship Endowment:This scholarship fund was established to honor <strong>Clarion</strong>’s fourteenthpresident, Diane L. Reinhard for her distinguished service from1990 through 2003. As tribute to President Reinhard’s determinationand tireless efforts to bring a modern, high quality, residential learningcommunity into being, <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Foundation, Inc. named itsnew housing development “The Diane L. Reinhard Villages at <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong>” and announced the creation of a scholarship endowment.To be automatically considered for a village scholarship the incomingfreshman must demonstrate high level of academic achievement, activeinvolvement in student leadership, commitment to community service,and participation in extracurricular activities. Diane L. Reinhard Scholarswill reside in the Reinhard Villages at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> throughouteach semester they receive support.Lyle G. Reinhard Scholarship: This scholarship established byPresident Diane Reinhard in memory of her father. One award for anew <strong>Clarion</strong> Campus freshman graduating near the top of his or herhigh school class with SAT total of at least 1050 (critical reasoning andmathematics component). Past winners have been well rounded andacademically strong. Students are reviewed for this award via admissionsmaterials; no scholarship application is required. Award offeredprior to March 1.Cecil and Agnes Rhodes Memorial Scholarship: Etablished byReverend Clayton Rhodes ’53 in memory of his parents. Candidate mustbe an entering freshman that is a graduate of Union High School (<strong>Clarion</strong>County), have a minimum SAT total score of 900 (critical reasoning andmathematics component) and graduated in the upper two fifths of his/herhigh school class. Student records are reviewed for this award via theiradmission materials. Award offered prior to March 15.Rotary Club of <strong>Clarion</strong> Scholarship: This scholarship was establishedby the <strong>Clarion</strong> Rotary Club to assist deserving students from the<strong>Clarion</strong> area. Candidates must be a current resident of <strong>Clarion</strong> Countyand a graduate of <strong>Clarion</strong> Area, <strong>Clarion</strong>-Limestone, Keystone, North<strong>Clarion</strong> or Redbank schools and must be in the top twenty percent oftheir graduating class. Also must have maintained a QPA of 3.0 on a 4.0scale for grades 10, 11 & 12 and must have a SAT total score of 1150(critical reasoning and mathematics component) or a composite score ofa minimum of 26 on ACT exam. The applicant shall provide a letter ofrecommendation or endorsement from a teacher or administrator at theirhigh school. The applicant shall also provide evidence of active serviceto the school and community through participation in extracurricularand civic activities and or organizations. Award made in the spring.Mary Catherine Murphy Schierberl Leadership Scholarship:This scholarship was established in memorial to Mary Catherine MurphySchierberl, Class of 1909, by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildrenand friends of the Schierberl, Wolf, and O’Toole families. Thisscholarship is available to a freshman on a one-time basis. Applicantsmust have a minimum High School GPA of 3.0, graduate in the upperhalf of their class, and have an average SAT total score compared to otherincoming freshmen. Student records are reviewed for this scholarshipupon receipt of their admission materials; no scholarship application isrequired. Award offered prior to March 1.Frank H. Sessions Scholarship: This scholarship was establishedin honor of Dr. Frank H. Sessions, former dean of graduate studies andcontinuing education. The funds are awarded each year in recruitinglearning disabled or handicapped students. Student needs a 3.0 or abovecumulative grade point average. Contact Student Support Services at814-393-2347 for application information. Deadline date for applicationis April 1.The John S. Shropshire Memorial Scholarship: Established inmemory of John S. Shropshire, dean of enrollment management andacademic records at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>, <strong>Clarion</strong> alumnus Class of 1961.John had a strong affinity for the Pittsburgh city public school system,having graduated from Westinghouse High School, and a strong affectionas well for the Harrisburg city public school system, having taughtat Central Dauphin East High School for many years. The following arethe criteria for a student to be eligible for the John S. Shropshire MemorialScholarship: student must demonstrate evidence of financial aid viathe FAFSA form, must be a second-semester freshman or above with atleast 12 credits earned with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and musthave graduated from a Pennsylvania city public school listed with theAdmissions and Financial Aid offices. An essay is required on the topic,“How will you use your education to make the world a better place?”Essay is not to exceed one page in length, typewritten. Applications areavailable in the Admissions office and Financial Aid office. Deadlinefor applications is the first Friday in April and the award is made for thefollowing fall and spring semesters.Sigma Tau Gamma/Sigma Tau Scholarship Endowment: Thisscholarship was established in 2002 by the brothers of Sigma TauFraternity. The fraternity promotes academic values and has decided toestablish this award as a way to give back to the university. Many of itsmembers participated in extra curricular activities whose participationand contributions helped establish the rich tradition at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>.To be considered, students must have accumulated 48 credit hoursand be enrolled in the Honors Program. Students must have a cumulativegrade-point average of 3.4 or above, show financial need per FAFSA documentation,and be involved with a service related extra curricular activity.Contact the Director of Honors Program for further information.Sitzman International Student Award for Outstanding Achievement:An annual award will be presented to the outstanding foreignstudent of the year based on services and activities performed for theuniversity, the <strong>Clarion</strong> International Association, civic and professionalgroups, and other activities of academic and/or cultural enrichment.Students selected by a faculty committee. Contact the Office of InternationalPrograms at 814-393-2340 for more information.Christopher John Stahlman Memorial Scholarships: Establishedin memory of Christopher, a <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> graduate, by his parents.Two C.J. Stahlman Memorial Scholarships are awarded annuallyto <strong>Clarion</strong> County students in recognition of outstanding academicachievement, integrity, and service. Requirements include SAT totalscores in excess of 950 (critical reasoning and mathematics component)and a grade-point average no less than 3.3. One award is exclusivelyfor students from <strong>Clarion</strong>- Limestone High School. This award can berenewed in the sophomore, junior, and senior years, provided that thestudent maintains the required academic criteria. The second award,available to students from any <strong>Clarion</strong> County high school, is renewablefor the sophomore year. Application is required, along with an essay andinterview. Application information can be obtained from <strong>Clarion</strong> Countyhigh school guidance offices or the <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Admissions Officeat 814-393-2306. Application deadline is April 1.State Board of Governors Scholarships (B.O.G.): B.O.G. Awardsare made each semester to under represented students. The candidatesrecord must show a strong academic curriculum, contribution to thecommunity, participation in extracurricular activities, and diversity ofbackground. These scholarships are renewable. The Admissions Officewill contact eligible candidates.Minnie Patton Stayman Scholarship: The Fund for the Advancementof the State System of Higher Education provides one-timescholarships to incoming students from Altoona, Pennsylvania. Scholarshipsavailable to State System universities each year on a rotating basisas determined by the Office of the Chancellor. These awards are basedupon financial need. Student records are reviewed for this award viatheir admission materials; no scholarship application is required. Whenavailable, award usually offered prior to April 1.Dana S. Still Scholarships: One-time scholarships, awarded in honorof the former professor of English, provost, interim president, and chairmanof the Council of Trustees, are presented annually to incoming freshmanstudents. Eligibility is based upon academics and financial need. Studentrecords are reviewed for this scholarship upon receipt of their admissionmaterials; no scholarship application is required.
