<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Pennsylvania 23HON 230: Special Topics: Science/Mathematics 3 s.h.Interdisciplinary course in the natural sciences and/or mathematics. Focuses on basic principles in the natural sciences and/ormathematics and their development within the context of human civilization. Required of students in the Honors Program.HON 240: Special Topics: Social Sciences 3 s.h.Interdisciplinary course in the social sciences. Focuses on human civilization from the perspective of the social scientist.Required of students enrolled in the Honors Program.HON 350: Junior Seminar 3 s.h.Interdisciplinary seminar foundational to the development of the Senior Project and career planning. It is crucial in bridgingthe Honors sequence with the final project as it develops presentation and portfolio skills while requiring students to develop theprospectus for their senior project and linking with a faculty mentor. This course and/or study abroad required of all students in theHonors Program.HON 450: Senior Project 1-3 s.h.A scholarly project of an interdisciplinary nature including the student’s major area of study. A public presentation of theoutcome of the project is required. The leadership of the university recognizesthe interdependence of nations and peoples throughout theworld.<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> is committed to providing a varietyof study abroad and exchange programs. Study abroadprograms offer students the opportunity to maintainenrollment at <strong>Clarion</strong> while attending an internationaluniversity. Programs may be offered in both foreign andEnglish language settings and may vary in duration.The Office of International Programs (OIP) coordinatesand administers international-related activities on campus,including the International Student Services Office, studyabroad programs, and exchange programs for faculty andstudents.Summer SessionThe Summer Session is maintained for the benefit ofregular <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> students, incoming freshmen,students in good academic standing at other institutions,graduates of approved colleges and universities, teacherswho wish to meet certification requirements, certain highschool students, and any adults who wish to attend classes.In addition to the regular undergraduate and graduate courseofferings, there are also workshops and special programs.<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> and the surrounding area offernumerous opportunities for summer activities. There arenormally a pre-session and two consecutive five-weeksessions. Interested students should contact the Office ofAcademic Affairs for details.Winter IntersessionThe Winter Intersession was established to enablestudents to obtain additional credits outside the regularsemesters. Only on-line classes are offered and studentsmay take no more than one class during the WinterIntersession.Classes begin the Monday after the last day of theFall Term Examinations and run for just over three weeks.The session follows the standard add/drop refund period.Only limited library, student services, and office services(registrar, bursar, financial aid, etc.) are provided. Officeservices are unavailable for one week in the middle ofthe term. The Financial Aid Office will not be reviewingprogress after the Winter Intersession, so a passing gradecan help a student regain aid, but not lose aid.Veterans’ Affairs<strong>Clarion</strong> offers the regular degree curricula to veteransand children of deceased veterans.Credit for educational experience in the armed servicesis allowed on the basis of the recommendations of theAmerican Council on Education.The university grants a maximum of four credits inhealth and physical education for active military service offour months or more with honorable discharge or continuedreserve status. Credit is normally given for HPE 111 (twocredits), and two HPE activity courses of one credit each. Toensure credit is granted, veterans should bring an honorabledischarge document (Form DD214) to the Office of theRegistrar, 122 Carrier.Academic Information
