It does not count as the second required collegelevelmath course.Elementary and early childhood majors MUST meet themath requirements (MATH 111 and MATH 211) with a gradeof C or higher BEFORE taking ELED 324.ALL students must complete BOTH English requirements,BOTH mathematics requirements, and CMST 113 (PublicSpeaking) with at least a grade of C prior to student teaching/internship.TRANSFERS and READMITS must also meet the aboverequirements, but will be treated on a case-by-case basis.III. Retention in a programA. Maintenance of required cumulative QPA.B. Attainment of a grade of C or higher in all requiredprofessional courses and all required courses(including content competency courses andemphasis courses in elementary and proficiencycourses in secondary) in major areas.C. Removal of any academic, physical, or mentaldeficiencies identified after admission to programbefore being permitted to continue in the program.D. Completion of all program requirements.IV. Qualifications for student teaching/internship/externshipA. Completion of 90 semester hours of universitycredit in designated program, including all teachingmethods courses.B. Praxis II (Content Knowledge and SpecialtyTests). Beginning Fall 2005 student teachers mustprovide verification of Praxis II tests being passedbefore student teaching.C. A grade of C or higher in all required professionalcourses and all required major courses in area.Elementary and/or early childhood majors mustalso have C or higher (or equivalent) in contentcompetency courses and 11-credit emphasiscourses.D. An overall cumulative QPA of 3.00. Please beaware that even though the courses require a C orhigher, all Cs will not calculate a 3.00 QPA. Youmust have As and Bs to offset Cs and achieve anoverall QPA of 3.00.E. Satisfactory completion of all tests and clearances(Criminal Record, Child Abuse, and FBI) necessaryfor field placement.V. Graduation requirementsA. Fulfillment of all university standards forgraduation.B. An overall appropriate cumulative QPA (3.0).C. A grade of C or higher in all required professionalcourses and all required courses in major area. Inaddition, content competency courses in elementaryand early childhood, as well as 11-credit emphasisin elementary education require a C or higher. Allproficiency courses also require a C or higher orequivalent.VI. Pennsylvania certification requirements at <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong>A. Complete all program requirements and meet thestandards of the Teacher Certification Program at<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>.B. Pass the appropriate examinations (in effect at thetime you take the tests) required by the PennsylvaniaDepartment of Education. To be taken by ALLMAJORS at second-semester sophomore year (48-60 credits):1. Pre-Professional Skills – Reading2. Pre-Professional Skills – Writing3. Pre-Professional Skills – MathematicsAll elementary, early childhood, and K-12 majors(i.e., special education, library science, music, andforeign language) are also required to take:4. Fundamental Subjects – Content KnowledgeIn addition, ALL MAJORS TAKE:5. Specialty Area Exam(s)Test Registration Booklets, which will provide costof tests and cut-score information, are available inthe Office of Field Services (127 Stevens).C. Complete application for certification.D. Certify U.S. citizenship or hold an immigrant visawhich permits employment within the United Statesand declares an intent to become a U.S. citizen.E. Certify no habitual use of narcotic drugs in any formor excessive amounts of intoxicating beverages andnot be under indictment nor have a conviction for acriminal offense.F. Provide verification of a valid health examination(within one year) and negative tuberculin test (withintwo years) at the date the application is processed.G.
