pages i-viiiAcademic Information18 <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Pennsylvaniacourse may make application for such an examination inthe Office of the Registrar; the chair of the subject areaconcerned will determine the validity of the application.Minimum qualifications for proficiency examinationapplications are as follows: first-semester freshmenmust have scored 550 or above in the verbal on the SAT;students other than first semester freshmen must have aQPA of 2.50 or above; and in no case may a student earncredit for a course more than once for any given subject.Proficiency exams are not available to students whoare otherwise not enrolled at the university during thesemester in which the exam is to be taken. Proficiencyexams may not be used to repeat courses in which lettergrades have previously been awarded.5. Credit for Life Experience<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> may grant credit for life experiencebased upon careful evaluation of such experience. Forinformation, students may contact the dean of the collegein which they are enrolled.General Certificate of Education:Advanced Level<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> grants course credits, wheneverpossible, in subjects in which an A-level pass has beenearned. Course equivalencies will be determined by theappropriate college dean based upon information providedby the student.International Students<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> is authorized under federal lawto enroll nonimmmigrant students. <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>welcomes applications from students from other countries.If you are not a U.S. citizen or are not a resident alien (witha green card) you will apply to <strong>Clarion</strong> as an internationalstudent.For international students to be considered for admissionthey are required to submit the following information:1. The International <strong>Undergraduate</strong> Application.2. Official or certified copies of all academic records withan official seal of the school must be provided fromsecondary school, college, university, and professionalinstitutions, including all courses taken, grades (plusgrading scale), graduation date(s), and copies ofdiplomas, degrees, or other certificates received. Forpost-secondary work to be evaluated for transfercredit, please provide a course description or syllabusfor each course. Submit both official translated anduntranslated records.3. Applicants from countries where English is notthe official language are required to submit officialresults for the Test of English as a Foreign Language(TOEFL) or the International English LanguageTesting System (IELTS). Applicants from countrieswhere English is the principal language may chooseto submit official SAT or ACT scores in lieu of theTOEFL or IELTS.Admission GuidelinesBasic requirements for admission include a minimumTOEFL score of 500, if it is paper-based, or a score of 173,if it is computer-based, or a satisfactory SAT/ACT score, anIELTS score of 6.0, or a score of 61 if Internet based.Students who have graduated from a high school (orequivalent) where the language of instruction is not Englishwill be exempted from any general foreign languagerequirement at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Academic credit and/orlife experience credit will only be granted for knowledgeof one’s native language in cases when specific courses orexaminations offered at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> are successfullycompleted.Non-Degree AdmissionsStudents who wish to enroll as a non-degree seekingstudent may enroll for up to 12 credit hours as a QuickAdmit. Quick Admit forms are available in the AdmissionsOffice. Note: state and federal financial aid is not availableto quick- admitted students, because they are non-degree.After completing coursework as a quick-admittedstudent, if a student chooses to apply for “regular” admission(in a degree program), they may do so during the semesterin which they will complete no more than 12 credit hours.Applying for “regular” admission includes a non-refundableapplication fee, high school transcripts, and collegetranscripts, if applicable.Students who have not been approved for degreecandidacy after the completion of 12 credit hours of part-timestudy will not be permitted to continue at the university.Early Admissions ProgramsL.E.A.P. Leaders’ Early Admission Programfor high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interestedin attending the <strong>Clarion</strong> Campus.ObjectivesThe <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> early admission program isdesigned to admit selected high school students on a parttimeor full-time basis for summer, fall and/or spring.Objectives are as follows:1. To provide able high school students with an opportunityfor course work of a greater scope and depththan is offered by their high school courses.2. To present selected students with an opportunity toexperience college work prior to graduation from highschool.Admission CriteriaThe following criteria determine admission of highschool students to L.E.A.P at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>:1. Completion of the freshman year in high school.2. Completion of a college entrance examination. Thestudent may take either the Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT) or the American College Test (ACT). Studentsmeeting class rank and grade-point average requirementsmay complete and submit SAT/ACT scores inthe first semester of university enrollment.
