Thescholarships are awarded based on grades in physics, mathematics, andcomputer science and are presented to junior physics majors. In addition,recipients’ names are inscribed on a plaque in the department office. Seethe Physics Department chair for further details or call 814-393-2571.Karl and Inge Sendler Memorial Scholarship: This scholarshipestablished in the memory of Karl and Inge Sendler for students withthe desire and will to learn the world of physics. Mr. Sendler had animpressive career that included making major contributions to the developmentof US manned space capabilities. Mr. Sendler retired fromNASA’s Kennedy Space Center in 1974 as Director of InstrumentationSystems. Mrs. Sendler, a physics graduate in her own right, worked forthe US Army. One of her assignments was to compute flight trajectories.To be considered for this scholarship, you must be an incoming freshmenstudent majoring in Physics or Secondary Ed Physics and demonstratefinancial need via the FAFSA form. Upon admissions acceptance, youare automatically considered for this award.Outstanding First-Year Physics Award: This endowed scholarshipwas established by friends of the physics department to honor emeritusfaculty. It is given annually to the most outstanding physics majorenrolled in the introductory physics sequence (PH 258/PH 268 andPH 259/PH 269). The award is based on academic achievement withinthese courses as well as evidence of scholarly commitment to physics.Recipients’ names are inscribed on a plaque in the department office. Knotick Memorial Scholarship: This endowed scholarship inmemory of Mr. Knotick, a <strong>Clarion</strong> student, is given annually to a psychologymajor. The award is based on academic accomplishment, service to theuniversity, Psychology Department, and community. Students must havecompleted at least 90 hours by the end of current spring semester with anoverall QPA of 2.50. Student must also have completed at least 12 creditsin Psychology. Contact the Psychology Department chair at 814-393-2295for additional information.Dr. Iseli K. Krauss Psychology Scholarship: This scholarship establishedby Dr. Krauss, a member of <strong>Clarion</strong>’s Psychology department since1988. The scholarship will be awarded to a current <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>sophomore who has a minimum SAT total score of 1050 (critical reasoningand math components) and a 3.2 QPA. The award will be paid during thestudent’s junior year and can be renewed for the senior year. For additionalinformation, contact the chairperson of the Psychology Department.Psychology Department Endowed Scholarship: To be eligible astudent must have completed 57 hours by the end of the current springsemester with an overall QPA of 3.0. Students must also have completed15 hours in Psychology, at least 9 of which must have been earned at<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Research, departmental service, and other contributionsto the field are strongly considered. Contact the PsychologyDepartment secretary for further information.Speech CommunicationDr. Mary R. Hardwick Scholarship: Created to honor Dr. Mary R.Hardwick, retired speech communication & theatre professor, and hercareer as a gifted artist and dedicated educator. The scholarship is opento students majoring in speech communication (and are not graduatingseniors) with a QPA of 3.0 or higher who have been active within the department.Contact the chair of Speech Communication at 814-393-2284.TheatreFred L. and June McCall Burns & Family Scholarship: Thissophomore year scholarship established by Dr. Max H. Burns in honorof his parents Fred and June McCall Burns. Current student must beseeking a degree in Music, Drama or Mathematics or in the Educationfields of Music, Drama or Mathematics, and possess excellent grades at<strong>Clarion</strong>. Contact the Scholarship Administrator in the Admissions Officefor additional information.Clarence and Janet Lesser Scholarships: The Lesser Trust Fundprovides scholarships to successful students in the areas of theatre, art,music, and athletics. High school students who have exhibited highinterest and achievement in these areas are urged to apply. Applicationfor consideration needs to be submitted prior to April 1. Selection isbased upon talent, academic promise, and leadership potential. Awardsmay be continued in subsequent years at the discretion of the selection committee,subject to the availability of funds. Its purpose is to assist theatrestudents who have completed at least one semester. The recipient willbe selected on the basis of high school and/or community Theatre activitiesdeemed worthy of merit. Contact the chair of the Department of Theatre foradditional information at 814-393-2648.Theatre Scholarships: Awards are available to students who participatein the <strong>University</strong> Theatre. Criteria for selection are aptitude,dependability, dedication, talent, and performance promise. Studentsselected by the theatre staff. The number and amount may vary fromyear to year. Wilson Amsler Endowed Scholarship: An endowed scholarshipestablished in recognition of E. Wilson Amsler and his many contributionsto the community and the university. The scholarship will permitthe College of Business Administration to recruit and/or support anoutstanding business major. Applications and nominations are acceptedfrom any junior enrolled as a full-time student in the College of BusinessAdministration. Applicants should have a QPA of 3.5 or better with atleast 30 credit hours completed at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Students must showactive involvement in the student organizations of the College of BusinessAdministration and <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Applications must be completed and returned byMarch 22.Donald E. & Bernadette Hugus Crooks Family Scholarship:Established by Bernadette (Hugus) and Donald Crooks for an incomingfreshman who demonstrates strong work ethic and desire to excel.Candidates must be enrolled in the College of Business Administrationwith preference given to Marketing majors. The scholarship award isrenewable for up to four years if the candidate maintains the requiredacademic criteria while majoring in a program of the College of BusinessAdministration. Student records are reviewed for this award via theiradmission materials.Edward G. Kriebel Family Scholarship: The purpose of thisscholarship is to attract students who demonstrate entrepreneurial skills,have the dedication to quality and hard work demonstrated by the Kriebelfamily and who demonstrate need not met by federal or state aid. Firstpreference is given to an AC Valley or Union High School graduate,second preference to a graduate of other <strong>Clarion</strong> County high schools andlast preference to other surrounding area high schools. This scholarshipaward is renewable for up to four years if the candidates maintain therequired academic criteria while majoring in a program of the Collegeof Business Administration. Student records are reviewed for this awardvia their admission materials. FAFSA must be on file.The Kroh Family Business Scholarship: Established by D. ScottKroh, ’74 and his wife, Pamela, to benefit a student in the College of BusinessAdministration at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The scholarship is intendedfor upper division students who maintain a strong academic performancein preparation for a successful career in a field of business.Charles P. Leach, Sr. Scholarship: This endowed scholarship isawarded annually to an outstanding business student. Eligible studentsmust be of at least sophomore standing (30 or more credits) and areselected on the basis of a QPA of 3.5 or better, contribution to the Collegeof Business Administration and the university, and participationin extracurricular activities such as professional organizations. Applicationis made to the chair of the College of Business AdministrationScholarship Committee at 814-393-2600 during the Spring Semester.Applications must be completed and returned by March 22.
