Most of <strong>Clarion</strong>’s scholarships arefunded by way of private support through the <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong> Foundation, and are managed by the Office ofScholarship Administration, within the EnrollmentManagement area of the university. Please contact SueMcMillen at 814-393-2306 if you are unclear about any ofthe information below.<strong>University</strong>-Wide ScholarshipsLori Ann Aaron Memorial Scholarship: Lori Ann (Bessetti) Aarongraduated from <strong>Clarion</strong>-Limestone School District in 1993. She was agifted student and pursued her higher education at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>.She received her bachelor’s degree in finance in 1996 and completedher MBA in 2001. The scholarship was established by Lori’s husband,Mark Aaron, their families, and friends. To be eligible for consideration,a student must be an incoming freshman with a minimum 3.0 gradepointaverage in a high school college preparatory curriculum, and mustdemonstrate financial need determined by FAFSA. First preference shallbe granted to students from <strong>Clarion</strong>-Limestone School District. Secondpreference shall be granted to students at all other <strong>Clarion</strong> Countyschools. Students will be automatically considered via their admissionscredential.<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Alumni Association Scholarships: The AlumniAssociation has made these scholarships available for each new academicyear plus eight Leadership Awards. At least two of the LeadershipAwards are reserved for children of <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> alumni. Specialconsideration will be given to participants in the <strong>University</strong>’s EagleAmbassadors program for one scholarship and three leadershipAwards. The awards are open to full-time undergraduate studentswho will have completed at least 30 credit hours at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>prior to the next academic school year and will not be graduating beforeDecember of the next academic year. The selection criteria include a 3.0or better cumulative grade point average, community service, serviceto <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>, letters of recommendation and financial need.Applications are available in the Alumni Relations Office and questionscan be answered by calling 814-393-2637. Final date for returningapplication is January 31.<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> APSCURF Scholarship for Incoming Freshman:This scholarship was established as a memorial to deceased andretired <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> faculty and is funded annually by the <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong> Association of Pennsylvania State College and <strong>University</strong>Retired Faculty (APSCURF). This scholarship perpetuates the longtermcommitment of retired faculty to <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> and present daystudents. To be considered for this scholarship, candidates must have aminimum SAT total score of 1000 or ACT composite score of 22, andgraduate in the upper two-fifths of high school class. Preference will begranted to a descendent of past or present <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> APSCUFmembers. Students meeting this preference and who feel they meet theacademic criteria need to submit a letter indicating they are a descendentof a retired <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> faculty member indicating the name ofthe faculty member to the scholarship administrator in the AdmissionsOffice, <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>, by February 1. Award offered in Februaryfor the following school year.Band Scholarships: Scholarships are available to students whoparticipate in the Marching and Symphonic Bands. Criteria for selectionare musicianship, instrumentation needs, academic promise, andleadership potential. Students selected by the conductor of bands. Theannual awards may be renewed subject to the availability of funds. Thenumber and amount may vary each year. Donald Bishop in honorof his late wife, Donna Dupont Bishop ’72, is intended for an outstandingnew student. Award criteria include a minimum SAT of 1300, top twopercent of class, and first preference is given to a student with financialneed. This renewable award is offered once every four years. Whenavailable, students are automatically considered for this award whenthey submit their application for admission.The Bobbi Scholarship Fund: This scholarship established by Ms.H. Roberta “Bobbi” Heeter to provide financial support for <strong>Clarion</strong><strong>University</strong> students who are the dependent children of widows or widowers.Just prior to her retirement in 2002, after 28 years of service,Bobbi became the first recipient of the <strong>Clarion</strong> Proud Award. To beconsidered, candidate must be an incoming freshman, dependent childof widow or widower, show financial need, and achieved a good highschool academic credential. It is the intent of the donor that the awardwill continue to support the same student throughout his/her undergraduatecareer; therefore it is available once every four years. The<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Scholarship winner must maintain a 2.5 cumulativegrade point average on a year-to-year basis. If you feel you qualifyfor consideration of this award, please send letter indicating so to theScholarship Administration Coordinator, Admissions Office, <strong>Clarion</strong>,PA 16214.Sara Cicciarelli Leadership Scholarships: Established by the estateof Sara (Milanovich) Cicciarelli, ’32, who taught English for 25 years inthe Union School District. To be considered, students must demonstratestrong grades in challenging curriculum and have a minimum SATtotal score of 1000 (critical reasoning and mathematics component)or a composite score of 22 on the ACT. First preference is given tostudents trom Union School District in Rimersburg. Second preferenceis given to students from other <strong>Clarion</strong> County schools. Students mustdemonstrate financial need and are automatically considered when theysubmit an application for admission.<strong>Clarion</strong> County Rod & Gun Club Endowment: Established in2003 by the members of the <strong>Clarion</strong> County Rod & Gun Club. Theorganization promotes academic values, and foremost, the study ofour native wildlife and habitaat and its management. The endowmentis in honor of Lewis Knight Sr., a founding member and leader, andis a way for the club to hellp young men and women who share ourmembers’ interest in the natural heritage of northwestern Pennsylvania.To be considered, the student must be an incoming freshman at <strong>Clarion</strong>
<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Pennsylvania 43<strong>University</strong> with a minimum SAT total score of 1000 (critical reasoningand mathematics component) and show financial need via the FAFSA.First priority shall be given to a child of a member in good standing ofthe <strong>Clarion</strong> County Rod & Gun Club. The preference of the club is toaward the scholarship to someone who is majoring in environmentalscience and/or who demonstrates interest in the natural heritage ofnorthwest Pennsylvania through extracurricular activities.<strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Federal Credit Union (CUFCU) Scholarship:As part of its dedication to serving and supporting membership, CUFCUmakes available two scholarships each academic year, pending availablefunds. Scholarship applicants must be a member of the CUFCU and meetthe following criteria: completion of 60 credit hours, a minimum of 3.0GPA, and a record of service activities. One scholarship is available to acurrent <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> student. Application is in April. Dependentsof CUFCU board members and CUFCU employees are ineligible. Applicationsand additional information is available in the CUFCU officelocated in 152 Gemmell.Class of 1943 Scholarship Endowment: This award was establishedin 2005 by the Class of 1943. As an integral part of <strong>Clarion</strong>’s rich traditionof excellence, members desire that this will be an annual scholarshipawarded to an incoming <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> student. The scholarshipperpetuates the long-term commitment of the class members to theiralma mater and present-day students. To be eligible for consideration,student must have a SAT total score of at least a 1000 (critical reasoningand mathematics component) or ACT composite score of 22, a gradepoint average of 3.2 or better on a 4.0 scale, and financial need verifiedby FAFSA. No scholarship application is required; students reviewedfor award upon receipt of admissions materials and FAFSA.Mary & Martha Colegrove Educational Fund Scholarship: Awardmade to women from McKean County. The recipients can continue toreceive the awards during subsequent years if students maintain a cumulative3.0 QPA at <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Students’ records are reviewedfor this award via their admissions materials. No scholarship applicationis required. Award made by February 1.Commodore Corporation/Richard Boyle Scholarship:Established by the Commodore Corporation in memory of former manager,Richard Boyle. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide supportfor dependent children of employees of the Commodore Corporationplant and the Colony Factory Crafted Homes plant in <strong>Clarion</strong> County.Selection is based upon demonstrated financial need, a written statementof application, and letters of recommendation. Croyle Scholarships: An endowment fund was establishedby the estate of Miss Mary Croyle to provide scholarships foreligible undergraduate students residing in eastern Redbank Township,<strong>Clarion</strong> County, Pa. Students from western Redbank Township will beconsidered secondarily. Selection is based upon financial need (FAFSA)and academic achievement. Application deadline date is April 1.DiTommaso Family Scholarship Endowment: This scholarship wasestablished by John DiTommaso, <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong> Class of 1978, inhonor of his parents, Angelo and Dorothy DiTommaso. The award willbe offered to an incoming freshman graduating from either Hempfield(Greensburg), Penn-Trafford, Norwin, Jeannette, or Greensburg CentralCatholic High School. To be considered, eligible candidates must havea minimum SAT total score of 1100 (critical reasoning and mathematicscomponent) or ACT composite of 24 or better. Students also need tobe in the upper two fifths of senior class. All applicants for admissionwho meet the specific criteria will automatically be considered for thisscholarship award. The DiTommasos have had tremendous communitysupport for many years and felt this was one way to acknowledge theirappreciation.The W.E.B. Dubois Scholarship: Established by <strong>Clarion</strong> <strong>University</strong>Minority Alumni to support and assist with the retention of strongstudents. To be eligible for consideration, student must demonstrate evidenceof need by a current FAFSA form on file and be a second semesterfreshman or above with at least 12 credits earned with a cumulativeGPA of 3.0 or higher. Deadline date is first Friday in April.Edith Davis Eve Scholarships: The Fund for the Advancement ofthe State System of Higher Education provides one-time scholarships toincoming students from Blair County. Scholarships available to State Systemuniversities each year on a rotating basis as determined by the Officeof the Chancellor. These awards are based upon academic achievementand financial need. Need to file FAFSA. Student records are reviewedfor this award via their admission materials; no scholarship applicationis required. Awards usually offered prior to April 1, when available.Educational Opportunities Program/ACT 101 Scholarship: Thesescholarships will be awarded each spring. Any freshman, sophomore orjunior who demonstrates academic achievement, leadership qualities,and commitment to the Educational Opportunities Program/ACT 101may apply. Candidates must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0. Foradditional information contact the Director of EOP/ACT 101 programat 814-393-1878.Foundation Honors Scholarships: Academically talented studentsat <strong>Clarion</strong> who participate in the Honors Program are eligible for HonorsScholarships. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievementand evidence of leadership and motivation. Allawards offered prior to March 1.Foundation Non-Instructional Staff Scholarship: Annually thefoundation makes available six $500 scholarships to be awarded touniversity staff members and their dependents.Lois Borland Fulmer Endowed Scholarship: This scholarshipfund established by the family and friends of Mrs. Fulmer to honor herdedication to teaching. The awards will be made to an entering or continuingadult student (full-time or part-time) of any major. Applicationinformation can be obtained each spring from the Financial Aid Officeat 814-393-2315. Deadline date is April 1.Inez and B.H. Fulton Memorial Leadership Scholarship: Establishedby Ralph (’31) and Virginia Fulton in memory of Ralph’s parents.Past recipients have a minimum SAT total score of 1200 (critical reasoningand math components and are in the upper 10 percent of his or herhigh school graduating class. Incoming students are reviewed for thisscholarship upon receipt of their admission materials; no scholarshipapplication is required. All awards offered prior to March 1.Helen Gendler Memorial Scholarship: This award established byDr. and Mrs. Stephen Gendler in memory of Helen Gendler. Funds providean annual scholarship to a student with a disability who is registeredwith Special Services. Hardwick Scholarship: This fund was created to honor Dr.Mary Hardwick, retired Speech Communication and Theatre professor,and her career as a gifted artist and dedicated educator. Selection is basedupon a required essay, financial need, and overall academic standing.Student’s essay of no more than two pages, double spaces, needs to focuson describing how he/she has come to learn that a relationship with anindividual who possesses the values of nurturance, compassion, collaboration,and respect for all living things can make a difference in thelife of another. Hart Scholarships: These multi-year scholarships, presentedin honor of the former admissions director, are awarded to thestrongest incoming freshmen.
