141.3. Implementation of the project activitiesFollowing the initial project meetings with all the project’s consortium members in November2005, which assisted in defining the conceptualisation and scope of the project research, thesurvey of Croatian universities was carried out by the Institute for Social Research - Centre forEducational Research and Development between January and March 2006 (the results of whichare presented in Chapter 4 of this handbook).Following the project research, the survey results were presented to the project’s ExpertTeam, consisting of six Croatian and EU members of the project consortium with expert knowledgein various aspects of career advising services and/or informational services for students(for a list of Expert Team and their biographies, please refer to Appendix IV of this handbook). TheExpert Team then discussed the findings and the ways in which career advising services could fitinto the Croatian higher education system.Based on an Expert Team workshop, a “template” for possible career advising services wascreated, highlighting a range of options for the operations of career advising services (i.e. a listof the types of activities that such service could provide and a list of its possible target groups)as well as options for the management of career advising services (i.e. a list of options regarding- among others - the size of staff, the location of career advising services in the universityadministrative structure and options for funding). The drafting of Croatian models of career advising services was carried out by representativesof each of the six Croatian universities, based on the Expert Team’s “model template” andassisted by Expert Team members. This activity was carried out in a workshop at the project seminarthat took place at the University of Rijeka on 5-7 June 2006. These models of career advisingservices are presented in Chapter 5 of this handbook.1.4. Short-term and long-term resultsThe main output of the project “CAREER: Platform for Career Advice Centres in Croatia” is theproject handbook, containing survey results, proposed models of career advising services, as wellas recommendations for launching such services in Croatia. Its intended purpose is to serve as areference tool for decision-makers and policy-makers in universities and ministries on the subjectof career advising services in Croatia, as well as a tool for lobbying these stakeholders to acceleratethe process. In this respect, the outcome of this handbook and the result of the project as awhole is to serve as the platform for launching career advising services at universities in Croatia. The project also has a number of other tangible and direct results. Particularly, it is expectedthat the project will contribute to a raised awareness in university officials, students and localemployers about the necessity of career advising services, and that the project will provide abasis for lobbying initiatives among policy makers regarding the importance of career advisingservices. Additionally, by emphasising the importance of student-oriented services, the projectrepresents a contribution to the transition towards a “student-centred” higher education systemin Croatia.CAREER: Creating a platform for launching career advising services in Croatian universities
