50Again, individual counselling, training, information and employment services would be themost useful activities offered to students in Zadar. In the same way as the students of the Universityof Osijek, Zadar students rate trainings and workshops as the second most important activitythat career advising services would organise. Unlike in Rijeka, here a university web site is thepenultimate place.TABLE 18: Rank-order of activities according to the ratings of usefulness given by students at the University of DubrovnikUseful or very useful (%)Individual counselling on professional interests and opportunities 95,6Information on opportunities for further education 92,4Assistance in drafting CV and job application 92,2Trainings and workshops for skills development 92,2University web site with job ads and employment advice 91,2Employment services (part-time jobs, internships) 90,3Newsletters and publications with information and advice on employment 85,7Public events (career days, presentations) 81,5Psychological testing (abilities, interests) 74,6Students in Dubrovnik agree with their colleagues at all other universities that individual counsellingwould be the most useful activity organised by career advising services, followed by informationon opportunities for further studies, assistance in job application and skills trainings.*Regarding the general situation in all six universities, it is important to have in mind thatall the listed activities are ranked as very useful and useful by a very high percentage of students, regardless of the university. This means that the ranking could be slightly misleading inrepresenting what students actually prefer. If we focus on the percentages, they would like tosee all the mentioned activities offered at their university. Also, it should be noted that in a situationwhere none of the universities have career advising services, the students lack all kindsof information and guidance, so it is to be expected they would rate everything as useful. Fromwhere they stand now, “anything is better than nothing”, so they rate every improvement verypositively. However, even within these positive ratings there are specificities at each of the six universitiesas the results show. Apart from this, there are some other aspects that could be taken intoconsideration in a later more operative stage of development of career advising services:• The location of the career advising services within the administrative structure of the university,as well as its physical location;• The type of liaison career advising services need to establish with employers in order to respondto the specificities of educational profiles produced at each of the six universities.Student needs for career advising services in Croatian universities: Research results & report
