Faculty of Medicine; Faculty of Philosophy; Academy of Arts; Catholic Faculty of Theology; Departmentof Biology; Department of Chemistry; Department of Mathematics; and Department ofPhysics.The other units of the University are: City and University Library (established in 1949 andsince 1975 existing as the University Library as well); Student Centre in Osijek (established in1963); and Student Centre in Slavonski Brod (established in 1995).In the academic year 2005/2006, the teaching and scientific activities at the University facultiesand departments were accomplished by 609 research and teaching personnel: 367 assistantprofessors, associate professors and full professors; 79 senior lecturers, lecturers, collegeprofessors and language instructors; 139 senior assistants and assistants; and 24 professionalassistants. According to academic levels of education at the University of Osijek, there are 399Doctors of Science and 121 Masters of Science.In the academic year 2005/2006, there were a total of 16,922 students at Josip Juraj StrossmayerUniversity of Osijek, of which 11,896 studying university studies and 5,025 studying vocationalstudies. The majority of students - 8,530 (50.4%) - were enrolled in Social Studies, next in TechnicalStudies 3,034 (18%), followed by Bio-Technical Studies 2,284 (13.5%) and Humanities 1,533(9%), Natural Sciences 760 (4.5%), Biomedicine and Health 632 (3.7%) and Art Studies 149 (0.9%).The Student Union of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek is the head organisation ofstudents. Its members are all students of the University of Osijek. The role of the Student Unionis to represent all students in University administrative bodies and institutions, in contacts withthe Ministry of Science, Education and Sports, as well as with other state bodies that deal withstudent issues.The University campus is situated in the former Drava barracks in downtown Osijek and encompassesan area of 232,048 square meters. Within the area of the University campus are thebuildings of the newly-built Student Dormitory.The long-term plans for the development of the University are outlined in the University developmentstrategy: The Reconstruction and Development Programme of Josip Juraj StrossmayerUniversity of Osijek until 2010.
